srbryan N15 Pulsar VZR DP1

Today deceided i would give the car a good powerwash as it was green on top of the green lol!!
Car had been sitting up in a farm yard for a year, the front arches and engine bay were especially filthy with the missing arch liners, there was a solid inch of mud in parts of the engine bay.
I didn't get many pics as i was trying to do it before ir rained and sorry about the pic quality:oops:

Air filter is manky and will; be replaced and a proper fitting battery will be got.

First thing i did was get rid of that useless resonator and "cold" air feed pipe:rolleyes:
IMG_0728.JPG
IMG_0725.JPG
Also covered my air filter and distributor with my custom special water repellent material:cool: to stop any moisture getting in there.

found a pliers under the all the muck under the cold feed for the airbox. BONUS!!!!
IMG_0729 (600x800).jpg

This is only a small bit of the muck that came out from under the arches:eek:
IMG_0730.JPG

Also found a little bit of time to stonechip the front crossmember and protect it from any more iron oxide returning
IMG_0734.JPG

Hopefully tomoroow i'll get a proper chance to Wash and polish the car and give the inside a proper going over and sort the headlight wiring issue.

Good idea giving it a good going over, then you can see what your dealing with.
Was this car just driven up and left on a farm? what a waste.

Fair play cracking on with it i'm sure you will do it justice

Thanks yeah that's my plan is to bring the car back to where it should be and enjoy not abuse it like Honda's are.
Yeah car was parked in the corner of a hay shed for over a year when the previous owner bought a Evo and lost interest in the Pulsar.

did you rub back and treat the rust on the cross member before spraying over it?

will just keep going underneath if you didnt...

I cleaned off as much rust as i could, treated with rust killer then anti-rust primer and stonechip. Do you think that will be good enough?

Wire brush on a drill or angle grinder back to bare metal, then treat it.
I don't miss the rust killing on my sri, although it was very clean underneath etc but prevention took me an age.

If your vzr was mine i would strip it, engine, interior, the lot to a bare shell and work from there! but it also depend's how quick you want it on the road.

Where did you get the paint for spraying the wing mirror? or did you make it up yourself?
I've used the holts paint that is meant to match up.... it's good but not spot on.

Whats the problem you have with the headlight wiring?

You have the perfect attitude towards this car so I hope it works out for you!!

P.S It's near impossible to get any part in that colour.

That holt's stuff is proper shit it's not the paint! it's how it spray's out of those can's.
The spray need's a fine mist with this colour.

It's Holts paint that i got in Halfords, i think it's fairly bang on compared to other colours i have had mixed before.
Headlight wiring was a mess made by the previous owner for some unknown reason, it was all cut and taped together.

So didn't get alot done this week due to been back to work and weather been generally crap, was looking at this for the early part of the week.
IMG_0738.JPG

I was off work today so decided to get the wiring sorted out, basically the left hand side bulb connector melted and shorted previously and blew the fuse but instead of replacing the connector and fuse, the previous owner decided to just wire the bulb directly to the driverside bulb and in the process cut off the driver side plug and when they wired it they wired it backwards so the dipped beam came on instead of the full beam and full beam came on instead of the dipped beam!!o_O
Also the full beam indicator light was not coming on the dash.

Sorry the pic is sideways can't get it to turn, blue wires is what they had running between headlights.
IMG_0742.JPG

So i reefed all that crap out and decided to solder the new connectors on properly with help from the factory manual telling what each wire was for.

Pulled out this little bugger
IMG_0752.JPG

and replaced him
IMG_0751.JPG

And both headlights were looking that little bit better:)
IMG_0750.JPG

I also cut and reconnected the shoddy looking VVL solenoid connectors and tidied them up.
IMG_0758.JPG

Before i finished up i popped on my wing mirrror cover and think it's a fairly good colour match,
IMG_0755.JPG

So that's what i got done today and checked the lights and they are working the way they should with the switch and the full beam indicator light is now working again BUT i noticed that when the dipped beam is on the indicator light lights up very dim:confused::confused: but if i disconnect the bulb connector on the passenger side it goes out and only comes on with the full beam and if i plug it back in it lights up very dim and works fine with the full beam:confused: it's obviously something to do with the paasenger light wiring since the indicator light get's it feed from that side but i don't know where to start looking??

My god do feel like a donkey, figured out why the light was staying on with the dims, turns out that when i wired the new plug onto the passenger side light i might have accidentaly, mistakenly ummm *cough* switched the earth and full beam wires*cough* all sorted now so i can sleep happy:D

You need to get some laquer on that wing mirror;)
Did the re-wiring go to plan on the vvl solenoid? what i mean work's?

Mirror is actually laquered just looks dull because of the laquer peel but i must wet sand and polish it yet.
I haven't driven it since i re-wired the vvl because i'm still waiting to get an alternator for it, the one i took to get repaired isn't repairable after they tried two regulators and still wasn't working right so i bit the bullet and told them get me a new one:(

i make you right driving it yet! there's 1 thing that would bug me with this...the intake pipe and the state of that filter, along with being kept at a farm for how long!
I would be taking the throttle body off and having a gander to see if any shit has made it's way into the intake.

Air filter is dedfinatly a priority on the list, i'm afraid it will crumble and fall apart. I would love to find something like the powerland intake pipe or a standard airbox but will have to make do with the current intake pipe for the time being.
Once i get the alternator back it's will get a full service and all fluids changed and I must change one of the petrol pipes as it looks old and perished.

So today was a good day in the progress of the car, collected my recondtioned alternator this morning, came home fitted it and started the car and battery light went out and car was charging @ 14.6v :D
All delighted so took it for a drive and half a mile up the road the light came back on:eek: WTF, I was stumped, came home and checked the voltage and it was back to 15.5v,:( unhappy was an understatement, I was thinking about walking away from it but said i would check the wiring and make sure i hadn't missed anything.
Checked fuses and nothing, checked connections and they were all good then i got the multi-meter out and started checking for continuity through the wires and bingo, signal wire from the alternator to battery wasn't showing any voltage so i made up a little homemade loom to test it.
IMG_0763.JPG

So i knew there was a break in the wiring somwhere so started at the fusebox near the battery and started tracing the signal wire to the battery and came across this behind the offside headlight.
IMG_0764.JPG
Due to not having arch liners water was abviosly getting into the couple of plugs near the relay box and caused the signal wire to corrode and finally broke off when I was driving down my rough road.
IMG_0766.JPG

Managed to pull the connector out of the plug and made a new connector that fitted in the plug:cool:
This is the little bastard that broke
IMG_0768.JPG

With that sorted light was back out again and car charging properly:D
Also gave a call to the dealer to collect a small package

A new hazard switch as my indicators were working intermitently but hazards worked all the time, so replaced the switch and indicators now working on demand.
Happy it's all coming together now all i need to do now is bleed the brakes as pedal is a bit soft and fix a leak near the back box and then off for the NCT and should be all legal then.

Looks like this is coming along nicely. Before and after pics are very promising, keep up the good work mate!

And I have to give my respect here, as I absolutely love VZ-R's in DP1 green!!
