My 2.2 Di N16 2001

First for starters hello all! My first post, though Ive registered a lot earlier.

And second.. the pics and some bodywork info

allur.jpg

- Painted side lists to body colour
- TDI marker
- Some crappy 16" alloys with 205/50 tires
- Front fog lights

And because of the winter Ive installed to the front high beams, theyr very useful because of dark nights and my work. At the summer time I dont have them, surprisely.

- Tinted backlights
- Back spoiler(not factory installed)
- TURBO-marker

Then the technical part

cooler.jpg

Something like that for the starters :D

- ECU reprogrammed(120-130HP and 280-290Nm, tuning specs)
- 450x300x76mm front intercooler with 2,5" piping
- Boost raised from 1.0bar to 1.6bar
- EGR completely removed
- K&N High flow airfilter
- Inside the cabin temperature readings for turbo to cooler and cooler to engine.
- Boost and Volt gauges

And about month ago I installed another "chip", which is just the TuningBox thingy, raised the max boost pressure from 1.6 to 1.9bars, so it definitely gives more juice, I think more than the ECU programmed chip, although not so neat and accurate than the programmed one. Now theres a Huge turbokick with the box(altough I like it :D).

And all who doubt the engine cant handle.. I can tell, it CAN. Runned for a year with the first chip and mods with no problems, and after that a year with 1.8-2.0bar turbo pressure without the cooler. I have original clutch and transmission and engine, runned almost 300000 kilometers now, all I can say.. very tough engine.

But, Ive started to look for newer almera.. something like 2005 2.2 DCI with Nissans own engine ofcourse and 100kW.

and yes.. Im from Finland so sorry for bad english..:)

And the last picture.. which is a bit old.

Brilliant, another modified N16 diesel :D. Welcome to the club! I've got the 2.2 DCi :). Love what you've done with the performance mods there. Intercooler looks fairly neat and you're running a hell of a lot of boost .

When you removed your EGR did it throw up an engine management light at all?

Have a look at my ride if you like - http://www.almeraownersclub.com/showthread.php?t=21741 :)
and here's a pic of mine just because it looks quite similar...

Hehe, thanks! I have been spying your car yes :D Yours look awesome.. :) Especially because my next one will be the DCI version.. Heh the boost is great I know, altough I will be limiting it to 1.6 in the near future.

No with this old N16 and engine it wont light the MIL never ever, but as you probably know it will with yours, as in my dads 2005 2.2l DCI 100kW primera.. and there isnt really an easy way to disable it, reprogramming the ecu would do the trick for what Ive read, OBD2 reader can shut the light down for a day or two, but it will light on later on.. Now for a week or two we have tried to manipulate the EGR valve in it so that the motor-part is removed from the EGR-valve and left alone to the wiring with the metal tap in it, and taped it so it gives some counterpressure to it, havent been asking lately, but for the last info when I did ask, the MIL didnt light up anymore. I really suggest removing or programming to remove the EGR once and for all.. with my car it gave a hell lot of turbo lag, ugh.

And as for my car.. Im greatly surprised that it still doesnt produce any smoke from the exhaust.. even with TWO chips, amazing.. :D And with the smoke I mean the cars like VAG or other high tuned diesel cars when revved they give a great amount of "powerSmoke"

Ah and here is some times with only the first mods installed, without the second chip, and conditions were quite bad(almost wintertime, snowing and wearing wintertires with studs)

60-120km/h with 3rd gear about 7sec
80-120km/h with 4th gear about 7sec
60-160km/h with 3rd and 4th gears about 20sec

edit.

0-100km/h 8.9sec with one chip

Yeah the EGR is more tricky on the DCi as it has a few sensors attached to it so it knows if it's working or not. I've got a remap planned so will get it sorted then :). Aanyway, on to your car...

I'd imagine you've got less smoke because of the amount of boost you're running. It's leaning out the mixture even with the remap dumping in more fuel. Lean is fine on a diesel though of course but it would explain less smoke :thumb:. It at least means your EGTs are going to be nice and low so very safe.

Yep, I did thought that too, still its a bit weird compared to others :D

But but, I noticed you have been in a recall for the engine? Because my dads primera has the same symptoms as yours did.. the engine is usually dead after accelerating over 3000rpms, the turbo pressure drops from 1.5 -> 0.7 and then starts slowly to climb again. We sorted this out with bleed valve to the electronic boost pressure unit(which transfers the electronic signal to analog pressure tube), now it gives 1.7bars all the way from 1700 to 4000rpm(ofcourse dropping a little at the end). The problem didnt exist when we bought this, about a year ago it appeared.

And the idle is sometimes humbling like 600-800rpm.. :( sounds really like the recall what you guys were talking about in England, but when we asked for it in here Finland, they had never even heard about it!.. so thats it, we didnt even get it to reflash or anything..although they did replace the boost sensor, but it didnt help. All what ive read was like the fault can be the ECU or the fuel injection pump(which costs like 1500-2000EUR!!) .. How can you tell if its a BOSCH ECU or Denso? Thanks for advance :)

And sorry for offtopic..

It says on the ECU itself. Your phase 1 will be bosch, and the 2005 primera will be denso. the p1 N16 is known for having a weak fuel injection pump.

Wow 1.7bar? I'm running 1.3 bar from 1500 to 4000. The VNT in the DCI turbo helps with this, as apposed to your wastegated GT15 turbo. I don't know if thats an effect of the exhuast and intercooler upgrade as I didnt monitor boost pressure until I got the intercooler in. Either way I'd like at least 1.5bar from the remap. Spool time should be good too with a hybrid VNT tyrbo :D.

Yeah Ive read the malfunctions of the VP44 PSG5 pumps.. :/ its horrible to read and Im a bit scared when will mine blow. Altought the main reason why it brokes down is the electronic unit(atleast at opel, saab and vw), but Ive read of some almeras which pumps died in mechanical way, and thats cause of bad and non-quality fuel, I think in Finland we have a bit more better fuel than example in Poland where these failures occur more often.

But yes 1.7bar and 1.8bar is reacheable with a little bit of adjustment, and I have to correct, it wasnt bleed valve, it was a closed MBC(which doesnt bleed any air out, and the adjustment works with spring power) If we pull more out of it, I think it can reach even to 2 bars. I think stock almeras(DCI) pressure is 1.5bar for what Ive read and the bigger cooler usually drops the pressure like 0.2bars(well depending on the size of the cooler, but when I installed mine(2.2DI), I was running like 1.8bars and after the cooler install it dropped to 1.6)

Theres a big difference with spool time yes.. when comparing these two :) Althought I got a hell of a boost for that with the second chip, and I installed it with a switch, so I can turn it off or on when im driving :D

Welcome to the club Faior - quite a few oil-burners on here now :)

Thanks! Oil mmm.. the best. :D

But heres some more pics

Well, its not the best looking from outside yes.. since I have put more into the technical part. And the paint isnt very good due to finnish conditions.. :(

Heres some audio system pics(If anyone is interested) which I had installed couple months ago, for the summer. It was purely for pressure as you can see.

Amplifier was SPL Dynamics D-5 and Subwoofer Digital Designs 9918C Beast and for the source JVC KD-SH1000 USB/DSP
with 3 batteries(2 gel battery in the trunk and one in the front)

In the future, if Im not going to buy the DCI, Ill be getting new -20 / -30mm springs and new dampers. And completely new exhaust without CAT and the second silencer. A friend of mine from the Poland told that they have got significant performance increase with these mods. Dyno showed 116HP and 250Nm while the stock was 105HP and 232Nm. And on monday Ill probably be getting 7 inch touchscreen with OBD2 reader and laptop installed to the middleconsole. (Mm, internet, fuel consumption, all extra gauges realtime, touchscreen, GPS and map, winamp etc etc :) )

R and TDI badges dont work for me. Interested to see what the audio setup looks like when you're done.

As we recommended to you in another thread neil, get a remap :). If you want more than that take a look at faior's and scoobysn7x's cars for an idea of what you can do to the Di.

First pic of the touchscreen setup

Its a PRE-setup, so its not looking very nice.. just getting it to work first etc.

Sell the Almera Di did you?

Yes, about a month ago.. served me very well for about three years though :)

But I do have another Almera N16 2.2DCI 112HP at the parking lot ;) For work-use only though. Just installed a boost gauge and raised the boost a bit yesterday.
