Knocking Noise (Braking at Low speeds)

Right guys when i was braking at slow speeds and coming to a stop the car was making a loud knocking noise from the left front wheel. Now I have had the discs and pads renewed at the advice of 2 different garages to try and resolve the problem (that hasn't worked) Any ideas? The noise only happened when slowing down to a stop or just crawling speed more prevelant braking on steep hills, it makes the noise to the rotation of the wheel. It is much better with the new discs and pads but probably will get worse in time i would imagine. It can't be felt in the pedal either and does not seem to have effected braking power in any way.

Have the garages checked around the brakes; suspension, wishbones etc to see if there is anything obviously wrong?

so you had this noise, changed disc's and pads, and its still there, but not as loud?
could be a caliper issue.rooted seals or binding/not releasing.
could be wheel bearings,loose hub.

I would also check the binding thing, look at the slider pins. Not sure if that would cause a knock as such but it would def make the brakes feel off

Now convinced this is nothing to do with the brakes, noise is there constant and can be heard at crawling pace but is intensified when brakes applied, sounds more like a creaking noise to the motion of the wheels turning.

Sounds like ARB related to me then. Check bushes and bolts.

Jacked the car up today and had one of the guys that works with me to have a look, we removed the wheel and let it run, the noise is coming from my drive shaft.

I had a case something similar many years ago with an Austin 1100. Okay I know, but bear with me, because at that time the Austin 1100 was all I could afford, after an incident left my Escort Mexico buried up to the front windscreen in the back of a Cortina estate. Anyway it turned out that the noise was down to the splines in one of the front hubs had worn off. Now I can't remember for certain, but I think it was the driveshaft splines that had worn away, caused because some gonk worked on the car before I bought it, and didn't tighten up the hub-nut to the right torque. As a result the splines chattered away in the hub, and eventually wore out. Of course the other thing nobody has mentioned, but SSS4Me is hinting at, is the CV Joint.

Hi, my almera’s problem that I got recently is actually the same as yours. And read that you mentioned that the noise was from the drive shaft. Despite your post was long ago in 2013, if you still get my reply, I would like to know is your Almera still having the same problem after you changed your drive shaft? The problem is resolved after that? As my foreman & Nissan workshop had changed the brake pads for me & checked on the disc brakes etc, the problem is still the same & still not able to find the root cause. Appreciate your reply soon. Thank you.
