Yes. It can handle the power. The most popular gearbox for this is the p11-144 which has a stronger third gear. Standard power of the SR20DET is 227hp and many have gone above this with their SR20DE+T builds

The reason is that the SR20DET from factory is not compatible with the FWD gearboxes. So, people here have taken an SR20DE from an Almera GTi or Almera Tino and then added a turbo themselves so an SR20DE+T. One great example of this on the N16 is Liam's
