GTi Petrol comsumption

Hi everyone, just been driving the Almera GTi for a week now

and I am very worried about petrol consumption, I put in £17 in the tank

and it is nearly finished and only done 75miles? is that normal?

I have done a full service, oil change, air, oil and fuel filter changed and even new spark plugs

But the problem is i have a large exhaust, the reason being i needed an exhaust quick so i just got it and fitted it. Would that be a problem?

Any help is appreciated

Thanks

thats probably average. some are thirsty some are good. almeras have possibly the dodgiest fuel gauges ever too.... ie; davids mint P2, low miles does 270 to a tank average if memory serves, with filter/4 branch/catback/light fly/clutch/fpr. mine is a shabby P2, 127k, filter/4 branch/catback/light fly/fast rd clutch and big hairy cams and i do average 330, did a 360 mile tank a few times too. mate of mine that used to have a P1 gti had a 4 branch/catback/fast rd clutch and sripped interior averaged 250 tank, TheSam did a 410mile tank in a mint P2. it really is swings and roundabouts.

Mine's a fully modified 170+bhp beast and it still pulls 80 miles to £10 worth of fuel every time under normal driving and the occasional blast..
How have you been driving it?
Joe

hhmmm should really be closer to 100miles tbf. however now that petrol prices have gone back up, we're getting way less for our money than before. ie when super was less than £1 huff.

feel the burn

Come to think of it the needle plays around a little, this wednesday ill fill the tank and im planning to drive around 80 miles there and back ill see how it fairs then.

Are there any other ways to get some mpg out, keeping in mind this car was left standing for a long time maybe more then a year. I havent changed the brakes yet as im low on funds and plus the tyres are all different sizes for eg 195/50/15 on of the front and 195/55/15 on the rear left and 195/60/15 on the right. That make any difference too?

The guy I bought the car off said he kept it for track days but had no modifications listed, would he might have advance timing etc? get a tune up lol (i know im clutching straws)

I agree it is quite strange how the petrol consumption differs between GTi's, our new beast which is quite heavily modified is better on fuel in normal driving compared to our GTi number one which has a manifold back exhaust!

You didn't say what sort of driving you were doing, but it does seem slightly heavy - mine's standard mechanically and I reckon that 75 miles would cost me about £12, ie three days commuting on country roads/town traffic

its all down to how well the car is running/performing and how you drive, both my gti's and the autech are very good on fuel

thanx for your views everyone.

I do drive a little slow as the GTI is too powerful for me and im still getting used to the dimensions and powersteering on the car, so yeah im changing gears up early and getting to 5th at around 40mph sometimes when the roads are long an straight, but im normally driving around the city no country driving or motorway at the moment, but as i said ill be going on a good trip this wednesday.

this is good to hear as a few weeks ago a young lad wrote off a well spec'd gti 2 days after buying it off one of our valued members..

Glad to hear that tommo, as i have a good experience in driving, 5 years in a micra and 1 week in an almera, its been a big jump for me from my little micra to this awesome almera gti, and plus i want her to last so ill take my time to learn how to drive her.

Thanks

My GF's GTI can do over 400 miles per tank driving on the motorway.
But around town the fuel economy really suffers.Completely standard.
You should try filling upto the brim and see how many miles you've done when you get to half a tank.

All depends on what sort of journeys you are doing / how you are driving it. About town on 10-15minute runs, 75 miles to about 15 litres is roughly 25 mpg. That's not too bad if it's short hops around town and engine aint gettin time to warm up.

I get that when around town / going to work etc, but have seen 40mpg+ on motorways.

the longer the trip obviously the better fuel consumption your gonna get, i went to peterborough from southampton to modded nats in my mera, i used 1/4 tank getting there and it was just over a 4 hour drive for me!

there and back 1/2 a tank of fuel, mine is completely standard, i just hate going round right hand corners, my fuel gauge goes down! Gotta keep driving to the left to the left :)

To be honest i have notice that my gti consumption is not amazing around town, however on open roads like motorways it better that expected , i mena got to silverstone and back on full tank wasnt even in red from bristol.

and that was with a fair few blasts to keep me a wake, as gf was alssep .

£10-£12 of fuel to drive 4hrs - never hun

honest no joke, i was keeping to a constant speed, i wasnt giving it beans, but round town the fuel consumption is pants.

i knew i should of took a picture of mileage and the fuel gauge!! damn it

lets see how much i use to JAE

Are all you guys and girls taking about GTi's right?
Tomorrow ill find out how mine does on the long 2 hour drive there and back
and ill get back to you all
