Inner wings chassis legs and front panel all totally solid. been undersealed well, and religeously and all seem to be in excellent condition!! Just need to get the brake pipes, servo, wiring loom, and fuel pipes etc out the way, and i can start rubbing down, in prep for painting! :D

not be worthwhile trying to clean it up first? just seems a shame to paint it when it all looks like it just needs a good clean, can look a bit wrong around the seam sealer etc once resprayed sometimes imo.

suprised by the condition of it, seem to find some survive well though for some reason, have got a 73 marina thats never had or needed a single weld, and my 92 primera thats been pampered the last 5 years has needed a few bits doing

Cheers folks, Im hoping to have it back on the road in the summer. But spare time is something I don have a lot of at the moment, but... we will see :)

yeah i will have to degrease thoroughly before i start to paint anyway, but there are small paint chips, dull bits, and miscoloured bits from when the car had its full respray (with the engine still in i now realise), and I want it as good as possible. even the bits that cant be seen when the engine is back in, I will know they are shiny :p haha. Im going to take the lacquer off the strut tops and inner wings, and paint up to the strut top edge then re-lacquer the whole lot, so the blend will not really be noticable, so long as I can get the colour mix correct. Using solvent based paint though, so even if it is slightly out I will be able to tint the colour if necessary. a 73 Austin Marina, thats a blast from the past mate :) get a thread started! :)

Old skool fords FTW,looking at getting a mark 2 flatfront rs,mexico,1600 sport but big money nowadays, guess i 'll just keep saving:).
Nice capri by the way, a mate of mine has a nice 2.8i in white with black vinyl roof also a nice looking car.

yeah I would love a mk1 or 2 escort, and a mex, well that would be awesome, but you are right. Pricey!!!!! Some day perhaps. I'd have to get way over the odds money for this first tho!! haha.

hey folks, been fecking ages since I did anything with the old bus due to commitments elsewhere, but Ive found some time and I aiming to have it back on the road for the beginning of september albeit only for a couple of months then back off the raod for the winter :(

soo....

Got the gunk out today and cleaned the engine, Made a bit of a mess of the driveway though with the oil!! LOL Also sandblasted and polished the thermostat housing, aux air valve and the inlet manifold, although I think this will need to be painted as it is a bit pitted in places!

After a blow dry with the airline I painted the block with matte black high temperature engine lacquer and so far I'm pleased although I think another couple of coats are needed!

Had to take the rocker covers back to bare metal as the paint kept reacting but they are looking good in primer at the moment ready for painting (the same colour as the car I think, although this seems to change daily!)

Look at the f*cking mess!!!! Grrr was tidy when I started, and I wonder how I loose tools!! (its a Mk 2 Lotus Cortina by the way ;))

Treated the starter to a coat or five of primer ready for painting too

All done under a watchful eye...... ;) (looking a bit dusty)

Much more to come, but that was just one day, hopefully have more next weekend :)

cheers guys, if it wasnt a 280 brooklands id put a cosworth in it tomorrow but it would kinda half the value of the car as it currently stands if i did that ive been told as they are getting pretty rare in good condition.

It is a Brat pick-up yeah with very very little rust, and 60K on the clock :) its been a great workhorse )

Got two brand new wings for it just incase tho ( they are soooo hard to come by). I love it tho!! its just fun!
