Mot advice: Exhaust and suspension

Hi everyone. Busy getting the n15 gti ready for the mot at the moment. Unfortunately one of the brackets on the cat broke off which in turn due to excess movement has sheared off the centre section just about half an inch before the flange where it attaches to the backbox which was rusty anyhow. So will need the section from the cat to backbox replaced. Only found out today so havent had a chance to price around, anyone have any idea of what i should pay for one? How much from the nissan dealers? Also would one from a different almera fit?

Have never put a car through the uk MOT so not really sure what they look for, have a few bits of rust which il be getting sorted and discs/pads only other thing i can see is that the dustcovers which are located betweeen the piston and coil (not sure if this is the correct name) and attach at the top of the body of the shock and go up into the strut are all perished. The shocks seem fine, none of them look wet, one is new. Just wondering if the car would fail due to these rubbers being shredded, car handles fine etc. Front elbow/downpipe looks fine, no blows. Anyone have any advice?

Thanks very much for the help

the rubbers wont affect an MOT just rip them out,

I would hate to think what nissan would charge for an exhaust, go to buypartsby.com and get a midsection and back box from their :)

Thats great to hear, easy enough get the struts off but would have been a bit annoying to have to replace them. Thanks for the reply will check out that site, anyone have any idea of price?

Will price it with nissan out of interest, anyone know if the section is specific to the GTI?

rubbers are no problem mine were fucked and so were the shocks and passed! got an advisory on rotting center section,
and you might want to look at the brake pipes as these seem to be a common pick up on uk mot's espcially with mera's!

GTi centre section is unique to the GTi, would imagine the VZR one would be the same but just buy a new GTi one, for the price its not worth messing around with second hand bits imo.

Thanks for the advice guys, have ordered a new middle section. Nearly would have been easier to track down one from a vzr over here lol but a new one is on the way
