Insurance companies - any good experiences??

Afternoon all and a happy new year.

I've recently had the annual fun that is getting a car insurance quote, and when looking at reviews of the companies I was tempted to go with I noticed that pretty much every insurance company you could think of had a bad review.

Now I know that people generally only review something when they've had a bad experience and want to complain about it, and insurance companies will do absolutely anything to get out of paying for a claim, after all that's what they're in business to do.

I've been lucky enough not to have to make a claim yet, and when speaking to all the various companies over the last few weeks they've all been very friendly and helpful when getting quotes so no problems there. But my girlfriend is going through a claim at the moment and her insurance company are being next to useless with poor communication, an ever changing version of events and naff support, and my brothers had to make a few claims over the years which have always gone terribly.

So the question is, has anybody ever had a decent experience of making a claim with an insurance company, and would hence go as far as recommending them? Or are they all as bad as each other and a necessary evil??...!!

Would be interesting to see.

Cheers

Everyone is gonna have good and bad with any insurance company so there isn't one you can say go here and you won't have trouble but I was with Elephant and crashed. Couldnt have asked for better service. With Chris Knott now but search for Chris Knott insurance on here and they get my vote so far. They also seem to get the nod over Sky Insurance on here and alot of forums I've seen.

I deal with a lot of insurance companys all day everyday and have to say most of the staff at the admiral group (diamond, elephant, bell) are all quite good

stay away from kwik fit, even though theyre only a broker and dont have much to do with the claim they fcuk up your cover and dont put it on the databases and if you have any problems they just fuck you off

Yeh, been with Admiral for 3 years now and not had a problem. Even when I was abit of a pain in the arse getting cover notes for my imports they were fine.

RAC was good, cost nothing to make changes to the policy, as were churchill, and currently admiral. Admiral have very good phone operators in my experience.

Admiral refused to cover me cause of having coilovers so had to cancel my policy and go with Chris Knott, how u get away with it kurt?

why did they refuse? im with elephant, so same company basically, and they just asked whether it was lowered more or less than 40mm iirc, didnt really seem that knowledgeable on modifications at all though tbh.

id recommend elephant, never had to claim luckily, but they have always been good on the phone, reasonable prices and cheap for modifications, although not like for like replacement unfortunately.

I had lowering springs and was changing to coilys, they asked how low it would go, said didn't have a clue, they insisted on a exact figure it would be, can't remember what I told them but wouldn't have been anything extreme and then they refused and said don't insure with coilys after it all. Craig didn't have trouble with his coilys either.

im probably the person whos had lots of issues with companies, ive been in situations where theyve got my age wrong, not had all my points down. and now im in crazy situations with company'. one with admiral where i had an accident not my fault and we done all the checks with dvla which i thought were fine. i got a letter saying none of my points were declared and why i didnt tell them. i wrote back telling them i wasnt aware of this and if the can simply add them on now and re-quote id happily pay the extra missed out. they then cancelled the policy straight away. another one im dealing with now, i took out insurance on my micra £750. hit a pedestrian the next day (not my fault) i got in touch with them and they said because theyre was an online error where i didnt have to state the bhp they would have to re-quote which come out at £2000+. i refused to pay and got away with the lower price. now with declaring the accident with admiral to them to keep things sweet its been requoted at £2000+ and i cant cancel without paying the £750 off. insurance is a scam!!!!!

She didnt ask, I said its lowered and that was that, she moved on. I wouldnt of thought she would have any idea what coilovers are.

At least some people have had decent experiences, thats reassuring to know!!

Was thinking it could be useful to have a thread where people could post up their experiences of insurance not based on price, but just their experience when having to claim. So then when you get your lowest quote, you can cross reference it with this to see if the reason its lower than the rest is because you'll end up getting nowhere with them when you really need to use them, or if it really is a decent deal.

Cheers

My first insurance policy was held with prudential, had a claim involving another car(my fault), and it was all sorted and finished within 3 days.

Mate was with quikfit and was involved in a crash with another car ( not his fault), and that took 4months to get sorted and even then when his car was repaired the company lost the car keys and put scratches on it when it was waiting to be fixed!
