Odometer stopped working at 170,000

My car has just turned over 170,000 miles and the odometer has stopped working, both the trip meter and total mileage gauges. I have tried re-setting the trip to see if this makes any difference, but has not. Its a phase 1 and hence has an analogue odometer. The speedo and rev counter still work as normal. I dont know if its broke or just stuck, it stopped working bang on 170,000 exactly. Has this hapened to anyone before and if so any hints on how to repair? I know how to remove the gauge from the cluster, but after that im stuck!

sounds like a plastic cog has broken maybe, take it apart and have a look

phil, i have a set of ph1 clocks here if your interested. you can have them if you want them, mine was a petrol though, yours being a derv, may need to change the dials over thats all

i thik it will be the cog as sam said! try twisting it anti clockwise a bit - take it out first though make sure it hasnt fell off

they fit out of a ga aswell

check the wire connection to the gear box, mine became unplugged after a new gearbox was fitted on my si .

lol this made me giggle " became unlugged" lol - thinking to mysel i hope so they have to take it off to actually fi the box lol

but yeah it is an option that it has somehow come off!

cheers chris, but about 50 miles after the problem occured, it seemed to rectify itself. Maybe I drove over a pot hole or something lol. Has been working fine since but its def something to keep an eye on for again. I suspect a dodgy cog in the rear of the dial.

if this happen the speedo would stop working. this happened to me about 6 months ago. it sounds like the clocks them selfs either the cogs or dodgy connection
