any idea what my problem is?

i checked my oil last night and it seemed pretty low on my ph1 almera

i topped it back up and since i have done this the car runs lumpy and is hesitant i also noticed carbon getting spat out of my exhaust slightly, it was running well before the oil was topped up

i havent thrashed the car at all i was driving very carefully and slowly to let the oil warm and circulate

has anyone experianced this or have an idea what it could be??

thanks adam

i checked it was the right oil first and i filled it to 2/3rds of the max level

thecars using oil very quickly but it idles perfect and revs perfect when parked but drives lumpy and seems to spit oil out of my exhaust

Could be lots of things. The worst case scenario is that your valve seals or piston rings have gone badly, thus clogging the sparg plugs with oil and causing both a serious missfire under load and burning of oil.

could simply be coincidence, check the plugs to see if they are fouled if they are ok check them for a good spark, check the distributor and rotor arm, see if the contacts are in good condition...

when was the car last serviced?

i did have the same problem and it was down to bad fuel

it was serviced in november and has only covered about 300 mile since

the problem seems to be getting worse im going to stop driving it now until its been checked over

not easy to make out but i cleaned it yesterday and all the carbon splatter on my car from a 15 min drive

Yes. Easiest to get another engine and swap it in.
Could be other things though, like valve stem seals etc. Is there oil around the spark plugs?

no rattling at all its nice and smooth its strange because its a little bit intermittent with it running lumpy, i had it playing up about a month ago then it just cleared itself now since i put the oil in its started again

Hmm. Very odd. I remember I killed my mondeo by overfilling the oil (Then the sump plug rounded off), was belching smoke for ages then wouldnt rev, ran lumpy and then died :(
What about the breather pipes going to the air intake?

if that was rings or valveseals, it would be smoking its tits off
it sounds like its grossly overfueling to me :)

that makes sense it is overfueling alot it stinks like pure petrol its very rich smelling

i have a diagnostic fault code reading faulty intake air temp sensor, i have replaced it but the one i put on it was sourced from a breakers yard so i reckon this ones had it too, would this affect it

i looked at the breather pipes and they seemed ok not clogged or loose etc

also it doesnt produce much smoke at all.

it does when 1st started on a cold day but thats it when its up to running temp its cleared

really hope its not needing an engine

oh and thanks for the advice/help

its still not cleared yet im in dispute with the man who sold me my maf but i got one on order now

also took it out tonight to fuel it up and when driving extremely gentle it seems ok but if you give it say 3rd to half throttle ive noticed it makes a noise from the engine its hard to describe its kind of a spinny tappy noise but it disapears if you let off and go back into super slow mode also when it makes this noise the power drops out

just checked oil again and its below empty already its using it quicker than the petrol!
