He had engine failure and so either sold it in bits or for scrap.
Back in those days many of us didn't bother replacing engines. We just cut our losses and bought another GTi... Mind you, they were £4k-£5k back then.

lol thought i never saw it is all and i saw consett_gtis name in the 5grand gti thread haha no harm in a history lesson is there 
but by the sounds of it this gti has been through alot of people as have most cars in consett, my mate had a nova sr all done up and that had 12 owners in consett alone :O its a slutty place ha
the end product of that mera looks ok though still i wouldnt have it

Yeah bottom end was gone. I used to love the look of it and wanted mine to look just like it. Then I realised that no girls would ever talk to me if it did (Unless you count sketty girls, and let's face it, no one should).
