cheers bud. ive been out of it for a while so cant remember all the diff ideas etc so will probs be asking daft questions all the way thru the build.

I think I still have a mint set of p1 front lights in the shed...

All 4 bolts are intact..

Really don't want you wasting money on stuff I have sitting around

really? sweet dude add them to my bill and will pick em up at JF2 :D, oh and if anyone wants my P2 headlights/indicators they can have them off me at JF2 or arrange to pick them up from me another time

bit hard to tell, will take better photos tomorrow

time for an update, for the past few weeks the gti has been sat on my drive looking very sorry for itself, well no more! The garage was built yesterday so this morning in she went,
IMG_1336.jpg

leaves 2 feet at the front and each side so have a good work area.
IMG_1337.jpg

bonnet off straight away and stored safely
IMG_1338.jpg

the battery tray was FUBAR so thats gone, unrepairable (must have been a battery leak at some point in its life as it was swimming in acid residue, but underneath is very good so will sand/paint it up
IMG_1340.jpg

front mud trap behind wimg was as expected but so far theres been no ajor rust penetration found, had a quick look at sills under body kit and they look/feel solid
IMG_1341.jpg

not fully cleaned out the arches but they look good and solid :D
IMG_1343.jpg

front end completely off, just the front ram bar to remove for better access
front cross member is good and is gonna get a full clean/spray up along withh anything else i can apply paint to haha
IMG_1345.jpg

the bonnet catch is pretty badly rusted however, so may have to replace, going to strip it done and see if i can salvage it
IMG_1347.jpg

lower front beam is rusted but its only surface rust so will finish removing everything and then sand it down.

had a few bolts snap on me bult will drill them out and as im replacing most items with ss ones im not too bothered.

thanks for reading

Nuts look alright but atleast remove the leaves haha

Nice move on the garage, should extend the cars life plenty

harry, the main reason for the ss bolts/nuts is they will never rust, am thinking that the ones holding panels etc will be sprayed over when she eventually goes for a respray.

update time.
top of pass side painted up and looking a lot better.
IMG_1354.jpg

before shot of drivers side inner arch
IMG_1352.jpg

inner arch painted, used waxoyl stone chip as a base coat, will be applying waxoil or something similar at a later date

hit a snag today, not sure if i want aircon but either way wanna remove it so i can get better access to the rest of the engine bay.......how do i de-gas it safely? anbody know?

to de-gas it press in the valves on the metal lines above the gearbox(works the same as a tyre valve), to de-gas it safely means not dumping the gas to the atmosphere

....phone....

decided to remove the aircon and not replace it as the condensor is knackered anyways and not bothered on it.
was a bit rough getting it out haha
IMG_1366.jpg

front end properly accesible now
IMG_1368.jpg

lower cross member needs a lot of attention but the rust is nt full thickness to thats cheered me up :)

finally.....does anyone know where this is supposed to be attached to? im guessing its the noise reducer for the alternator but dont think its supposed to be just hanging down freely
