The SEX... lol

Well I guess no time like the present to announce the latest addition to the fleet. After years of being a devout petrol head I finally went over to the darkside and bought a diesel motor. Which one I hear you wonder well a Techno Grey (KY5) 5 door N16 SXE.

This example with low mileage was a former members car and when it became available I couldn't let is pass me by.

Only a few things have been done since picking it up mainly swapping some mods from the old N16. The Nismo strut brace was a must as was the HID kit and the rear window shades for that privacy and less impact from our amazing summer thus far.

Future plans are undecided but upgrading the horn to a two trumpet setup and fitting the rear ph 1 lights and bumper are probably the first things I look into.

A few images were taken of the wheels as pink isn't really my colour no real pics till I get her clean and sort my wind deflectors being fitted.

Seeing as Jess never got round to it, can YOU please change the crappy reg plates!

Good buy dude, I think you'll really get on well with the YD.

Private plate will be going on once paperwork comes through so can transfer my N16 plate.

Pleasure meeting you the other day Rich, hope you've caught up on your sleep lol. Now this is a true Daily, your new threads should read Mad Maru's daily doesn't need any work done ;) . You've done the right thing my diesel brethren, nice to see active member's jumping on to the SXEy Derv Club, Poor Ed has been the blind flyer throughout his tuning stages, now theirs more dieselheads who knows what new tuning potential or ideas might be revealed. I'm not much of a contributor as am not that knowledgeable, the little I do know was thanks to Ed's Ride/resources threads.

The horn is really rubbish, I loved the ph1 horn used to give people the jumps.

Nothing Wrong with a lil bit of pink get in touch with your feminine side lol. :p

from our amazing summer thus far.

It's been brilliant hope it stays that way....

I have to admit the phase 2 is growing on me but I do prefer aspects of the phase 1 bumper & kit. Colour coding the door handles is also on the list when paintwork issues are addressed.

Forgot to mention the car had a Parrot CK3100 installed but due to a lack of audio streaming a MKi9100 was found and is awaiting a patch lead so I can start the installation. The auto dimming rear view mirror from the other car is also going to get fitted just forgot to get it ready for install. TWM short shifter adapter was also installed today and I need to get used to it so will give my opinion after a week living with it everyday. Thus far throw is shorter and true shame I'd just got used to the standard one now need to get used to this one.

Ok a lil update on the TWM short shifter I like very much however I need a smaller diameter bushing as the shift is nice and short but due to the oversized bushing the lever can occasionally feel restricted and if you do not ensure gear is selected properly it can pop back into neutral.

New Parrot kit fitted along with chrome kick plates & auto dimming rear view mirror. Wind deflectors and heated seats and the car will be up to spec and ready for the winter months.

Also I am brought a smile to my face every corner with the strut brace fitted, why were they not as standard I will never know.

UPDATE:

The TWM short shifter is out as the rubber bush is too soft and made the car impossible to get into gear after driving for any long period of time. The OEM installation has two metal washers that firm up the shifting. Due to the thickness of them I had to leave them out of the install of the TWM. So out it comes until I can get firmer bushes and then try the adapter and give proper feedback.

Panic over short shifter not to blame for gear selecting issue. The clutch slave cylinder was leaking and I found out a similar issue happened a year ago but the garage dealing with the issue couldn't find a fault.
New cylinder collected, fitted & bled within 45 minutes, problem sorted and happy motoring ahead with any luck.

Will refit TWM short shifter tomorrow and continue with the review for anyone else interested in buying one.

TWM shifter refitted & gear change is like a hot knife through butter and precise. What a difference a new slave cylinder can make.
Spirited drive later and if you haven't got one yet really it's time to get ordering...

Only positives and a worthwhile install, will keep updates on the shifter coming as the days/weeks pass by.

Sounds like B&M's mantra with B15/N16 setup which has led to cable stretch or snapping. I'll stick to this method which has had much better reviews without as many issues as the B&M.

As a ghetto mod there is a guide to tapping a hole and threading a bolt with a hole in it for a slip pin in it that allows for the cable mounting point to be moved like the TWM adapter. Only issue is getting the location of the bolt 100% or some have found even gears hard if not impossible to engage.

Thanks to Ed for the link ;)

Just knock the pivot ball on the shifter up the shaft.

Its free.
Pivot ball? Nope.

After much faffing from another seller on the bay of e, I finally got my fob key conversion kit with flip key & hard plastic buttons. Popped into local security centre/locksmith & voila two key blanks cut & ready for swapping over.

Didn't bother with during pics as I'm sure folk have seen the inside of the fob when changing batteries etc.

So here is the before & after pics:
