Air Flow - Open circuit

Hey all,
New to the forums.

My 2001 N16 Almera is having ongoing issues around the Air Flow sensor. Initially the car would cut out when engine was idling and at last service this was diagnosed as a faulty air flow sensor.

I have since replaced the sensor and the engine no longer stalls however an issue persists where it wont hold revs usually at around 3100rpm. will drop down below 3000rpm. Car failed the NCT as they could not take an emmissions reading because of this. Check engine light is showing constantly

I've had it into my mechanic and apparently the fault code corresponds to and open circuit to the Air Flow. I've tried putting in a new air flow again to no avail so was hoping for some ideas about what could be the issue. I've checked all visible wires leading to the air flow and wrapped any potentially exposed wires with insulating tape. Mechanic suggested that the wiring loom might need replacing and recommended a good auto electrician but I'd like to rule out any easy fixes before bringing it to him.

Any help is much appreciated
