New member - New (old) Almera

Hi all, great forum by the way!
Just bought myself a 2004 Almera 2.2 DCI SXE, mileage 44k, the guy has changed oil, filter etc himself at home, fair bit of history with the motor.

I'm pretty much a noob with cars, but feel a project coming on with this Almera. My first thoughts are to give the enginee some TLC, I've searched the forum and found several things I'd like to do, at home, as a DIY project.

Oil + Filter change - Found the oil to use on forum

Fuel Filter - necessary?

Clean MAF (Mass Air Flow sensor)

Also thinking about changing the air filter - any suggestions?

I have already researched the airbag light flashing, will check all connections under the seats as well as perform the reset procedure here

Sorry if this information has been posted before!

Thanks very much!

Well if anyone is interested.

Oil & Filter changed.
Fuel Filter changed.
Air filter changed.
MAF cleaned.
EGR Valve cleaned.
Air Bag light fixed with link in this forum.
Fuel pump/ECU reset done.
New discs & pads all round.
Caliper piston repair kits done.

Passed MOT with flying colours.

45K on the clock.

Next is to clean the Air Intake with Wynns spray cleaner.

Cleaned the air intake with Wynns, seems much more responsive.

Had an issue with not starting, all lights ok, battery ok but wouldn't turn over. After a few hours playing around, found the earth strap corroded and hanging by a thread near the gearbox.

Temporary bodge job and starts like a beauty. Job for the weekend

Also found the turbo boost sensor while playing so intend to give that a clean also, assuming it's similar to the MAF sensor.

So....had to replace a tie rod end ball joint for MOT, so replaced both, £40 for the win.

I have an annoying squeak from the aux belts, which I believe to be the tensioner, so plan on replacing both of these belts (Air Con & AUX) at the same time.

The exhaust rear back box snapped off due to rust, was cable tied for approx 4 months, but have replaced middle silencer and rear silencer.

Grant total spent so far is less than £900 including the car and all parts below.

The list of work completed so far:

Oil & Filter changed.
Fuel Filter changed.
Air filter changed.
MAF cleaned.
EGR Valve cleaned.
Air Bag light fixed with link in this forum.
Fuel pump/ECU reset done.
New discs & pads all round.
New dust shields for rear brakes.
Caliper piston repair kits done.
Exhaust (middle & rear).
Tie rod ends.
2 front tires.
