Newbie GA16 question

Ok this is kinda like spot the difference.

Whats the difference between these two engines? they are supposed to be the same model, but ive never seen that black box on top of the fuel injection before. what is it?

I'm from Australia but ive never seen that before. Just Curious...

Looks just to be the air filter mater............ dont know alot about n16's but cant think what els it would be.

its the air filter box. the newer engine is the one with the black cam cover, the inlet manifold is different, so it has an air filter box over towards the battery. the newer one isnt a GA, its a QG i think.

Look at the inlet camshaft....it has an extended section on the timing chain end......its a kind of variable valve timing thing.....US and OZ ga16`s have this...UK ones dont.

the top one is a GA16DE with VTC I believe.
