No RPM after engine replacement

Hi, we replaced an engine on a 2001 Nissan Pulsar N16 Sedan, took out a Q16DE and replaced with the same model (second hand from engine importer). Only a few differences which was- the engine coolant sender was not in the same location as the original engine (right hand side by flywheel), so we are getting that sorted (drilling new hole and tapping, as dimple already there) and the Camshaft sensor was on the opposite side of the head (orginal engine had it on the left side, the new engine has it on the right), that was sorted by extending the wires across.

The only problem is that no RPM reading is appearing on the guage. We have replaced all the crank shaft and cam shaft sensor with the old engines sensors, still nothing. Have checked for continuity where we extended the camshaft sensor wiring, all was fine, there are 3 wires for it, the earth is good. The check engine light is showing which we will get scanned from a dealer.

In the meantime, does anyone have suggestions for what to check to get the RPM guage back working? Its most likely not the guage it self, but the sensors, are there any others which contribute to the ECM for the RPM to show? My understanding is the camshaft and crankshaft sensors go to the ECM which gives an output to the cluster? Are there any other sensors we can check/have missed? Any help will be appreciated!

The engine runs and drives fine otherwise, if it was the camshaft or crankshaft sensors I would have pressumed it would have run poorly?

Also the guage works, as when doing the cluster diognostic test as per the nissan manual, the needle rises and falls back down.

Thanks
