Powering two HU

Anybody know if it's safe to manually split the power ISO plug (like a Y connection) to power two HUs or is it unsafe? I'm not bothered about sound distribution as I have a seperate amplifier.
Any pics would help from those who've done this.

Hmmmmmmmmm I would do this onto my own car because i had all the leads made my self (N16 phase 2 with the screen) I am going to put my Head unit in my glow box and going to have a DVD player hooked up to it I need to split the ISOs for this

there are

Red cable - Is for Ignition (Got Mine from the Cig Socket)
Black Cable - Ground (Got Mine from Car Body)
Yellow Cable - Power (Got mine from the battery)
Blue Cable - Remote (For Amps)
Orange Cable - (Lights when u turn on lights head unit dims) (Got mine from the Hazard Lights)

I would not split the original cables i would just fine the cables from another source

Ive split mine, one for the HU and one for the DVD, Works fine ;)

I take it that the above is the only alternative?

Got a picture of your wiring?

Yup but its pretty easy to do to be honest.

Looking to put another head unit in later on after the new year.

Otherwise i would use all the original cables but the power cables so Yellow and Black get it from another souce. My head unit is running 10A atm if you get a DVD player it might draw out another 5amp atleast i am not sure if the original fuse or original cable can take that power. remember its best to be on the safe side.

Red cable - Virtually a small pulse will do the job
Orange Cable - Virtually a small pulse will do the job
Black Cable - Ground easy to source
Yellow Cable - Power easy to source

did it mine ages ago mate have a look in the members ride section for some pic's
i had an alpine head unit and a kenwood spectrum analizer...
obviously you cant wires the speakers up to both as you'll back feed them

What kinda cables would I need to buy in order to get a safe connection or wouldn't it matter since all the cables on the ISO plug are the same thickness?

Took a while Mick to find your thread and when I clicked on the link I thought I'd find a pic of your wiring, nevermind however, that's a nice set up you've got there.

I'm looking to buy the plug below and manually wire the other ends, it's a bit expensive from Halfrauds at £13 odd but it's the only place to find the block ends.

Havent got any pics, but ive put my sterio in the normal radio slot, and taken the drawer out at the bottom of the console for the dvd player.
My wiring is a little dodgy as when i bought the car the sterio wires had been cut, so ive done quite a bit of soldering. Also, i havent used standard speaker cables, ive just tied these out of the way.

fair enough

My Head unit runs on a 10Amp Fuse so i used 20amp cable direct from my battery. I am also running other stuff from that cable like a Nokia Bluetooth hands free kit and lights for under my seat but that should not take up 10amps.

I mean i looked at my old N15 power cables they do not look like they will support 10amp to me. I may be wrong but its always to be on the safe side i guess. i mean its going to cost you a exta £2 to get a 20amp power cable down to your head unit so i guess its worth it.

and for the ISO leads go on ebay they are alot cheaper.

sorry mate should of explained myself better, thought you where after an example of how it looked, location etc... ?
i basically hard wired the power feed from the original as the wires that came with the kenwood where quite long, you dont need anything else realy if its just for show

Oh I see.. That's ok.... I'm about to wire everything in but can anybody say if daisy chaining the yellow wire is dangerous or if daisy chaining any wire is bad?

I'm about to connect the wires now and a mate said the blue wire's different.

Black Cable - Ground, connected to the chassis
Yellow Cable - Battery, obvious
Blue Cable - Antenna, not connected yet
Orange Cable - Dash Light, Daisy chained to original Nissan wire
Red Cable - Ignition, currently daisy chained to original Nissan wire.

I don't know about the N16 but with mine when you turn the car off the cigarette lighter doesn't stay on.... so how is the ignition going to keep a pulse?

the ignition is a 12V input. so when you start the car (ignition on) the ciggy lighter turns on and it puts 12v into the ignition wire making the H.unit to turn on but when the car off (ignition off) the ciggy lighter does not give a 12v pulse.

The yellow cable is where the head unit gets the power from

if your mate said the blue cable is not a amp cable test it with a volt meter. turn the head unit on and test the blue cable which is 12v+ with a ground. then test it with the head unit off it should not give a reading when the head unit is off.
(if this is correct and you connect the blue wire to the ariel it will just blow the fuse (short it out))

the ISO plugs should all be the same

Hope this Helps
Darren :)

Edit:
Your Friend Might Be right (I do not think i have this cable on my radio)

they look like the same cable

Doh... I should've waited and bought the Ebay job.
Anyway, I've done the following
Black Cable - Ground, connected to the chassis
Yellow Cable - Battery
Blue Cable - Daisy chained to original Nissan blue wire
Orange Cable - Dash Light, Daisy chained to original Nissan orange wire
Red Cable - Ignition, currently daisy chained to cigarette lighter.
and it doen't work.
It keeps turning on and off like something out of the Poltergeist.
Can anybody tell me which wire I've screwed.
P.S. I don't have a volt meter.

Get a Volt Meter they are a very useful tool trust me :) they are about £7 quid from maplin and they will do the job

try disconnecting the blue cable.

I guess I'll need to invest in a volt meter... Even though I've tried disconnecting the blue wire, grounded the black wire elsewhere, disconnected all the wires apart from the red and yellow, daisy chained the red and yellow as well as several other combinations including fitting a seperate h/unit to find out if my current one is dodgy and it still doesn't work.
I think I'll give up for now, best buy a dvd unit from Halfrauds and have them fit it... Unless anybody else knows what's wrong???

so you connected your dvd player to the same unit as your head unit ?

If so
does the head unit turn off when the Dvd player turns off

and have you tried running a direct cable from the battery and trying.

The primary HU still works fine, the secondary one just blinks on and off and I have linked it directly to the battery.
I've tried most things apart from attaching the black wire to the negative connection of the battery (as I thought it might be a bad idea)???

Linking the black cable to the battery should not be a bad idea (just grounding it better). Ok have you put a Fuse in from the battery to the 2nd Head unit ?
