Questioning an almera's reliability?

yeh but if the car is second hand then it depends how the previous owner has treated the car. mine had not been kind to it.

The almera was probably too reliable, and all the models from the same era.....thats when Nissan got into money problems.

LOL, they made reliable cars, and suffered because of it...

Victims of their own success. Does any "normal" company make truly good quality cars anymore? I think Lexus may be the last one, maybe the current shape Accord, 'cos BMWs and Mercs don't feel as much like a bank vault as they used to. Hondas and Toyotas seem about the most problem free, but don't really feel like a premium product as a whole ("breadvan" CTR's interior was and felt rather horrible I thought...)

i'm actually quite surprised that the hyuandi accent was ranked third in that list for reliabilty!!! i was always under the impression that all korean built cars were a bit iffy, and after being in an accent i felt that they are really cheap and poorly put together..

like the old mercs, E class mercs were bullet proof.

Hence why now the n16 and other models of the same time have the recurring problems we all see on here every day (Sticky calipers, dodgy heaters Etc.) They are building them to a lower standard to recoup some lost revenue on aftersales.

I feel that, too. My car has had problems (brake calipers, mainly) and I'd seriously dispute AutoTrader's review there. My N16 is the most unreliable car I have ever driven.

I still love it, though.

If you read the top line it refers to the model's release date as being 1995, hence it refering to the N15 not the highly unreliable N16 (due to the renault effect as I call it).

I'm sorry but I've looked at the N16 1.8 for my next car but it's a big no no for me.

Stick to getting a new Almera N16 - at least they'd be under warranty and if you done the wise thing and got un der hire purchase you hand it back ;)

agree about the renault affect. Funny really because i was just talking about this today with my boss about how other makers like ford are deliberatly crap! He was jealous that ive done 10k in less than a year and only had brake issues.

Nah, no more almeras for me. The only nissans I would have next would be a 200sx as a 2nd car, or very possibly a VZR.

Have a go at me if you want but I am considering the new corsa VXR, the 200bhp turbo-charged 1.6 screams potential.

I just question the 'small family' classification tho.

i wouldnt question it really, we use my 3 door n15 as a family car virtually all the time and its hugely practical, fold the seats down and you can fit a lot in it and the rear seats are very spacious for a car of its size, easily comfortable enough for any long journey. got a 4 door p10 and even though the interior is more spacious your would fit less in it due to the way the rear parcel shelf is and that is meant to be a spacious family car. would say the almera is better as a family car really, only problem is the economy on the 1.4 is the same as a 150 bhp 2.0 primera

TropGreenGTI i have sat in a few of the new VW's and they were very very well built, was really suprised by how soild it all felt. sat in a mercedes estate aswell and thought the same about that, all the seats felt solid and the dash felt solid and well made aswell. had just assumed new cars were poor quality until i sat in them, tbh the worst built new car i have ever seen was a nissan tino

Bah, feel up some proper old 80s and 90s ones! ;) The current ones ARE still good, mind, but the older ones were just a bit more than that, a real "premium" product in almost every way, except performance of course compared to now...

yer i know what you mean, nothing beats the feel of the older cars, 70's cars feel cheap and nasty and then some manufacturers through the 80's and early 90's seemed to be making cars like tanks. even the 80's fiestas and escorts that you hear drive past rattling and generally sound knackered seem to just keep going and they were poor compared to the volvos, mercedes etc. would never have one of the newer cars, no character to them, just boring and i dont think you could trust them like you could with the older mercedes etc
