Size Matters?

Alike some of you, I like to keep my 'Mera practical especially now that I have to lug baby stuff around. Does anybody know if it makes any bit of difference (in sound quality) having say a 6" 1000w sub as opposed to a 12" 1000w sub?

if you wanted, you could keep the whole boot free of stuff, apart from your amp/s bolted to the back seats/or you could even have them under your front seats.
what you want is gensis 6x9 subs, yes Im recommending 6x9's for once lol. They wont give you bass that you feel(neither would a 6" either), but it will give the bass sound.
There is another make of sub that is really really thin, so thin you can have it under a false floor under along with the amps, cant remember what theyre called but some one on www.talkaudio.co.uk will know (may need to fiddle with the address Im not sure on it)

I have a twelve inch Infinity 1200w sub in my boot and I really think the bass is way too powerful.Like trying to unleash it's potential without going deaf!!
I Would have preferred getting a 10 inch to be honest.

And as said, six by nines are more than sufficient if powered correctly.
Definetly so, if space in your boot is an issue.
Why didn't I just get 6 by 9's! :D

I'd just like to take this moment to re-iterate the fact that I recommended genisis 6x9 subs
these are not normal 6x9s, and anyone using normal 6x9's should be shot :uberlol:

if you are saving space then you could get a ICE shop to build a sub box that fits into one of the corners of your boot.

also depeneds what you listen to.. a 10" sub is ideal for dance or thumpy bass. 15" for long deep notes, and 12" seems to be, usualy the ideal inbetween.
it does not always have to take up a lot of space of you build the box right.

It also depends what you want out of the system. Do you want ear bleadning, deafness bass - then there is no way you are going to get away around the space issue.
If you want some subltle bass added to compliment your front speakers then 1 reasonable powered sub (say of around 100/200RMS) would be fine)

don't think the baby is going to appreciate that

true!!

another thing to look at - its the space the sub needs... some need silly amounts, some need very little...

On to it mate and thanks! + I'm running normal 6x9's on a steal parcel shelf and since suicide is against my religion would any thoughtful passer-by please shoot me where it doesn't hurt - Can't afford to die yet... Too many things to do.

build a sub box
Is this expensive and where in Surrey/South East England might I get one done? Would a 12" fit snugly in the left side gap of our boot?
Before somebody asks, I'd rather pay somebody to do it as I don't have the patience for this kinda work.

I actually turn the sub off when the baby is in the car, thank goodness the H/U allows me to do it from the front seat! as I wouldn't be *rs*d to have to take out the sub all the time.

well to get a grasp of cost..

I bought a 2.something cu.ft ported box with 2 seperate compartments to house 2x rather large subs... this set me back £120 for the box and its just that - nothing fancy - flat corners and weighs a ton!!

by the sounds of it, you want something that you are gona feel a bit, but nothing to much thats going to break the bank or take up a lot of room...

depends whyat music you listen to but prob a good 10" sub in a sealed box which has been "deisgned" to fit into the side of the car with around 100-200wRMS power output would surfice and add enough bass to the over all audio - nothing to fancy, over the top, just "nice"... and an amp to match - this could be mounted anywhere. back of the seats, under the seats, and if you were clever, design the box so that the amp sits inside the sub box!!

I'll upload a pic tomorrow but at the moment I'm running a 12" in a-not-so-glamourous standard box which weighs quite a bit and doesn't quite fit snugly anywhere even when placed upside down on the right hand side of the boot.

So does anybody know if I'll get the same sound quality regardless of size, as to say... The same quality can be heard from a 10" 1000w sub from a 12" 1000w sub?

well if you had a 10" version and a 12" version of the same sub with the same wattage there would be very little difference, appart from the 10" will prob be slightly more punchy, and the 12" will prob go ever so slightly deeper. the 12" maybe slightly louder overall than the 10" due to its larger surface area, but we are only talking slightly here.
best thing to do is to go to a shop, take a self made mix CD of all the types of tracks that you listen to and go and play... this is what i did when i chose my subs.

i had the same prob with the baby. i wanted some bass to add to the sound "to make the music real" but not to take up much room for as little as possible.
my solution was a 10" sub, box and amp package off ebay for £80. it is only 12" wide, 10" depth at the bottom and 7" at the top, so as you can see it fit in the shape of the back seats. with this i still got room for the pram(not needed now) and some shopping. got it off this guy, nothing special but jobs a goodun
