Speedometer reading incorrect!?!

Hi all,
I have a 06 Almera sx 1.5 and the speedo is reading wrong.
It's about 10% out,
When reading 120 km its actually going just over 100!
Checked it against sat navs, and had a friend follow me to make sure.

Anybody know the cause/fix for this?

Cars standard, nothing messed with.

Tires are 195/55-16's not sure if that standard(just incase wrong tire sizes giving wrong reading?)

Cheers

hi Rudd. i may be a bit late with this. according to ultimatespecs.com your tyres should be 185/65 15 and your rims should be 15 diameter. so give their site a check to make sure. it would certainly explain the speed discrepancy

I have the same issue on our N16 Automatic.
It is reading 70mph when GPS say 60mph. Tyres are correct size. Would a faulty speed sensor cause this?

In many countries, there is a legal requirement that speedometers read 10% too high.

Tires that are 55-16 will read exactly the same as 65-15. The 15" rim is 1 inch more, 65mm tire height is 1 inch more than tire height of 55mm.

The GPS reads correctly. The 10% speedo error is to reduce traffic fines.
