Whats the latest on replacement front Spks

Having looked about it seems there are quite a few threads on speaker replacements for the fronts, my drivers side died a while back and now the passenger one is going all scratchy as well :(

Its an SXE single disk with crapnav if that makes any difference.

Pulled the passenger side speaker out this evening, which TBH was REALLY easy, had the door card off speaker out and all back together in about 7mins and most of that was looking for a 10mm socket :D whats going on there ?
Last time I took a door card off it took about 30mins of gentle persuasion and even then you ended up with a pile broken plastic clips  bent bits of card and fingers covered in blood  and then a trip to a scrappy to find one that wasnt mullered to replace the one I'd just mullered

Looking at the speaker they are blaupunkt 7606500079 units in a custom frame, looking a threads here some folks seem to rave about the Infinity Ref 6502ix Reference X 16.5cm, are these still the choice for direct replacements at a reasonable price for the standard head unit.

OK Looks like its dig about in the workshop and see whats kicking about, dont really want to spend any money stuff I'm not sure about, cos I'm a tightwad :p

Anyhow found some classic Pioneer TS-1611's which look like they might fit, so I'm going to cut the old spks about and see if we can mount them in whats left LOL

Stay chooned for more bodging

Well an hour with some tools and some 80's Pioneers are installed......................... cut the old speaker out of the frame and chop the extra bit off

I think it should be a great fix for a tight wad LOL

Pull out the electric window switch panel, and the panel with the handle recess in. Remove 2x 10mm bolts visible. Remove door release handle trim surround. Remove screw at bottom of door panel. Remove plastic screw at pillar end of door panel. Pull panel off door, being careful to avoid shattering the plastic retaining clips.
