Nissan Almera 2005 display unit has no background light?

I have bought a second hand Nissan almera 2005 1.8 petrol but the display unit has no background light. I have bought another unit but it has the same issue? Everything works fine radio a/c etc except the lights? any idea

I had this exact issue in my 2003.
The only solution was to replace with a unit from a scrapper, and this solved my issue. It seems to be a terminal problem with the LCD units - you may have just got unlucky and bought a second dead one.
