1.5 gearbox '02

i just bought a 2002 almera 1.5, the gear box has fallen apart, took it out last weekend and its in bits. iv been looking around the scrapyards and not much hope of a 2nd hand box. is this a common problem with this model? i got the almera because of a good rep with reliability. any suggestions about what to do for a new box? are any other models and years compatable with mine?

Hello there, yes its a common problem on the 1.5s.

I have a gearbox available from a 1.8 almera, but you will have to wait for input from other users as to weather its a direct fit or not.

i know darren198712 has fitted a 1.8 gearbox, but i cant remember if it was direct or not.

im after £125 for the box, but its located in middlesbrough. so you'll have to arrange collection/delivery!

cheers

thanks very much fellas, i appreciate the info, im a bit disappointed about the gear box being a common problem, i bought the almera as it is regarded as a reliable car.

looks like drive shafts, gear selectors, rear gearbox bracket and maybe a 1.8 clutch is also required from a 1.8 to fot a 1.8 box to a 1.5 so by the looks of it not a straight forward swap
the clutch is not required

you could sell the 1.5 drive shafts on ebay for about 80 quid each (1.8 drive shafts go for about 30-40 quid) the gearbox is also cheaper to buy then the 1.5 one (a lot of people are selling Micra gearboxes and claim they are N16 ones) not sure how strong they are compaired to the N16 one but I have had 2 almera box's and if I remember correctly 2 micra box's too. im now on the P11-144 QG18DE gearbox
