my brother in law ha a 02 reg 2.2 diesel sport+ i think it's the common rail or high preesure injection one. that won't start, the glow plugs have been ruled out, and he has been advised that he has one injector down, and it's not pressurising. any one had any experience of this? and does anyone know of a good nissan speciallist or diesel specialist in the croydon area? he's been to 1st diesel in croydon who advised him of the above, and told him to get it plugged into a diagnostic computer at a specialist/dealer, to confirm it.

All help greatly appriciated.

before changing injectors, which on a nissan diesel is not a common problem so i would be surprised if this is the problem, but you never know. i would be for checking the fuel leak off pipes. this is a common problem and will make the car a bitch to start.

Just after i sold my almera 2.2di the high compression fuel pump went which stoppped it from starting. Amar who bought it from me will be able to tell you more. See if he posts up

forgive me for my ignorance, diesels are not my forte, i drive primera 2.0i sport.
what are the fuel leak off pipes, and where are they to be found?
Any tips for checking the high compression fuel pump?

Tried draining the fuel filter?.....you may as well change it then run some cleaner in the fuel.

fuel return pipes that are connected to the injectors, injectors are always supplied with more fuel than they need,so the leak off pipes bring it back to the tank,if the leak off is excessive it prob means one or more of your injectors is screwed, theres an easy test to determine it!

If it the Denso set of injectors it could well be a Injector fault. They don't hold the pressure and it leaks back to the tank. Also if the vehicle is the one where the feed pipes go through the head, just below the rocker cover, check your oil level. If these are leaking the oil level will be high.
I would get it to a Nissan Dealer and let them plug it in and see what pump and fuel rail pressures you have.
It wouldn't surprise me if it is a injector fault.

Yup, week or so after I bought it, car was 100% ok, drove to a mates (15 miles or so away), stopped waiting for him to get out, tried to start, but it kept turning but wouldn't fire up  .

Had it diagnosed by Nissan (cost like £200), and they said it's the diesel pump, and as it's in the engine, quoted around £2,500

Never gettin a diesel again, used to do 90 miles a day in a VTEC Prelude, may as well enjoy the petrol before it runs out

Surely you can get them re-cond for alot less?....it is a bit piss poor, as you`d expect a 10yr old diesel to have this problem, not a newish model???

Don't worry, I didn't pay that...

Costing £500 for the pump to be reconned (I think), and £150-200 labour, with a LOT of arm twisting of the mechanic!! Nissan wanted £1k for the pump and £1500 labour

what's the easy test?

another thing, is this engine the last true Nissan diesel, a collaboration with renault, or a rebadged renault unit?
