2001 nissan almera 1.8 sport + dont tick rite

hi my 1.8 nissan almera sport on tick over it go 1000 to 2000 it dont tick rite and and stuters when driving like if i slow down or speed up its been like this for over 12 month and its a pane it only has 66000 on the clock when i got the car it had 58000 and was the same its my falt for not asking for a test drive can some one please help thanks from phil

Hopefully something simple, but it sounds like a stretched timing chain.

If it is a stretched chain then it's odd that it's continued for this long without the engine warning light coming on.

With the above in mind, it sounds more like a missfire which on our engines is most commonly caused by a faulty coilpack.

I'm assuming you've checked the plugs?

Could also be something daft like a sticky accelerator cable.

yes i put a new set of plugs in and yes the ecu light its on

plug it into a diagnostics and find out rather then changing this and that.

I have been noticing my N16 idleing around 1100 but when its cold it sometimes jumps to nearly 2000 would that be the same sort of problem?

its now been fix and it was the timing chain tensioner thanks
