4 tail lamps! HOW TO

scott b

Where there's Pepsi, there's DEFINATELY Scott B
first of all youll need:

2 side lamp bulb holders and bulbs, drill which is the same size as the bulb holders, wire, screw driver (cross head) long flat screw driver, tape and soldier/scotch locks

next youll need to remove the trim on the tailgate, to do this youll need to remove the 2 side trims that are next to the window, just pull of, remove the 2 access panels to get to the rear bulbs, remove the handel (cross head screw) and then remove the rear panel, its cliped on so hence use big screwdriver to prise it of,

if you now look at the rear lamp from inside the boot, youll see a white multi plug (2 or 3 wires in it) this is attached to the rear of the lamp with a bit of a plastic support, snap the holder/support of, this your mark to where to drill.

drill out the mark to what ever sizr the bulb holder is, insert bulb and holder into hole

next youll need to wire it up, take the feeds from the number plate lights, join one of the wires from your bulb holders to a black wire (earth) and the other wire goes to the number plate feed which from memory is blue and red or red and blue, easy enough to see which wire it is,

once both wires are joined turn side lights on to make sure they work.

repeat the same process for the other side

replace rear panel, just line the clips up and bang it back on, replace handle itll fit one way round, replace side trims.

test the lights again.

done, should take no longer than 45 minutes at the very most (did it in less than 30)

Have you been asked this a few times recently then?

I am still trying to find some sidelight holders so I have put doing mine on hold for a little longer...

Good guide though Scott

i have managed to get hold of 4 pairs of side lamp bulb holders so if some off you are wanting to do this conversion and in need of a pair ill bring them with me to the newcastle meet next weekend, pm me to remind me, once there gone theregone

Finally got round to doing this today. Went our last night and put my p1 lights back on the boot so i could work on making the holes in the house in the p2 lights. Brought some bulbs this afternoon and spend an hour or so wiring it all up and it has just started drizzling again so did that just in time.

Took a pic on my phone. My camera on that is not good even in the sun so I apologise for the poor quality. Getting a camera for Christmas so will get some better pics done then. And before anyone says anything, the left hand side is slightly brighter than the right, bulb went in at a slightly different angle on the right hand one than it did on the left.

dont you need one of them to b rear fog-light though? or dont u need one of them by law?

By law you do need one rear fog light, but i suppose really you would only need it for MOT, cuz how often does your car get checked if the rear fog light is working...NEVER.
I would think that the fog light would be lost by doing this conversion (could be wrong).

The 4 lamps do look good though. :thumb:

fog lamp is still there and still works, so car is still fully legal

just look at the first page on this thread and youll find all the info you need...........

Just wondering as dont wana start taking apart to find out its not even gona work for P1 lol.. just if you knew if it would or not off the top of ya head.. no worries I'll check when I have time I guess lol... can the process be reversed?? i.e change back to normal lighting set up afterwards if I needed to??..
