Hey just a few things bout an N15, its a 1.4 but shudnt b too different to the GTi's etc. i duno.. if any1 can help me though it wud be cool.

i need to know where the inlet air temperature (IAT) sensor is or the Engine collant temperature sensor (ECTS) just to check something first off all.

anyway..

i have a standard boot spoiler i bought of ebay. it says "heckspoiler" underneath it so if you know the one i mean how can i fit it to the car once ive painted it etc. ?? it looks as though its been stuck on previously with double sided tape??!? but i duno how this would hold it on strongly? if anyone can tll me how to fix it i would much appreciate it.

secondly, the wing mirrors. i wanna spray them to colour code them but duno how im gonna get them off. i can see screwsunderneath is that all? or will there be sum sort of wire to them as they are electric?

i wanna paint my calipers and drums.. do i really have to buy a set with the cleaners nd paint to mix up for £20 which might not even be enough?? or can i use sum kind of normal heat proof paint? if i can how would i go about prepping them ready for painting?

i got some phase II lights and wana spray around the "bubble" type bits to colour code it. what would you lot recommend to use (im looking for a red colour) and how would i prep them and then would i have to laquer them afterwards?

lastly.. i am going to be spraying the interior.. will i need primer and laquer for the foliatec spray? and apart from the centre console which bits (if any) have any of you lot sprayed? any pics would be nice.

help would be greatly appreciated..

thanx in advance!! :)

Hi, alot of questions here buddy, firstly the sensors are definately going to be in a diffrent positon to the might sr20de lump its huge compared to a 1.4 I'm afraid. If you ask Tech1 he will probably know.

On the subject of painting the calipers thats easy, just buy some smooth hammerite its very good at high tempretures aswell, and cheap as chips! :D All as you need do is clean off all the grime and dirt and use a wire brush to remove the loose rust and then apply the paint, allow to dry and repaint again!

To get the mirrors off , Take off the Inner Door panel (3 Screws at bottom , 2 at each side & 3 bigger ones underneath the armrest / handle which you gotta pop off). Put ur hand behind to find the Mirror connector , & unclip it. Now that black triangle you see on the inside of the door opposite where the mirror is , you gotta pop that off but be careful as its only held on by 3 Ball joints which i imagin would snap easily. Once thats off theres 3 screws which when removed , released the entire mirror setup.

reverse to put it all back , just remember to connect everything.

oh yea forgot to add , if when u take off the panel the area's sealed with silicon & a plastic cover , just pull it off where you need to get ur hand in , press it down once ur done & it should stick back easy enough.

Hi, anymore advice on taking the door panel off? (Phase 1 GTI)
I had someone try ripping off my wing mirrors the other night, luckily not to bad tho, passenger side is ok put the drivers side has snapped and isnt too stable!
Hoping to get the part from a scrap yard!
Only prob is cant get the door panel fully off... removed all screws as said above, its the switches for electric windows and door lock/opener that’s holding it in.

Do these just pop out? how? tried but don’t want to be snapping any thing!

Thanks in advance,
Herbgti

Little Arms which need pushing in, then pulling out at the same time. Usually quite Harsh bastards to get out in my experience

Provided you've taken the screw out of the grab-handle well ...(can't think of a better way to describe it)

... if you pull pull the doorcard from the bottom, the handle surround will just fly off somewhere (hopefully without breaking) then just un-hook the doorcard from the top of the door

Hang on ....... Phase 1 ?

Think you need to prise the top of the arm rest section off to get at the screws underneath

Damn - I threw away a doorcard last week, could have talked you through it :(

You need to get in under here ...

Thanks everyone for all the advice finally managed to get the doorcard off!
Thought I was gonna snap the door lock part but came off ok in the end.

Got a full electric mirror in the end for £30 they wouldn’t sell just the mounting part!

Does any one know what the second socket is for next to where I would plug the electric mirror in?

Thanks again... Herbgti

Small tin of smooth Hammerite and a can of brake cleaner spray works perfectly. Tried and tested method. You don't even have to worry about getting brush marks either.
