adding bump strips

just wondering if the people that have had bump strips and have removed them have noticed any increase in the number of car park dents and knocks or if there really just in the wrong place and not effective anyway? the car is mostly used by my mum as i cant drive anyway and she seems to spend all day everyday in a car park which is meaning that the car is gaining plenty of little knocks and the usual car park scratches which are really annoying me now. was going to wax it today but when i realised how many little scratches and knocks it had gained in the week since i went round the whole car trying to remove all the scratches i just give up on the car and went back in the house.

can see me going for two new wings and doors next year aslong as i find some in the right colour, not hugely bad but they annoy me so much that i get fed up with the car sometimes. primera has bump strips and spent two years in the same car parks and has gained about 4 car park knocks where as the almera seems to have 400 and thats even on a colour which doesnt seem to show them up that well. might have to get some for the almera at least until its no longer living in car parks

before anyone says it, no she cant use the primera and no she wont give up using the car to go shopping (beleive me iv spent the past 2 years trying to make her get the bus) annoys me more when the primera gets knocked and i like the idea of mine taking the mileage of it and keeping it low

And i thought i was the only one considering this, my drivers door looks like it pissed off jet li and jackie chan on the same day! If your gonna colourcode them then i say go for it, try a dent repair company (Dent devils is my local one, not sure if they're national?) Seem reasonable on price (80 quid for both sides of a mercedes cosworth with fuckin hundereds of little dents)

Damo, any idea what it costs to get a dent removed from the roof? Strange place I know but it was there when I got the car.

I've had mine off for afew weeks now and the car looks loads better! I honestly couldnt see what they did, I understand the concept of if both cars have bumpstrips then when the doors are opened they will bounce off each other, but it's just not true, as most doors have some kind of shape to them so one bit stickes out more than the bumpstrip!

Anyway, i work in Tesco so my car spends 20 hours a week in the carpark instead of one or 2 like most people's :( the best way ive found to limit the ammount of dents is to park with it in mind. Like at the store i work in in afew places theres curbs with plants in next to some spaces (marking out the exit/entry road). so if i park as close to the curb as i can (tyres scuffing down it) it means i cant get dented from that side, and that there's maximum space on the other side to allow anyone next to me to open their doors. failing that if you park further away from the shop you'll get less dents!

I still dont know how some people open their doors to do this?! i always make sure not to do it but i think some people just kick the door open and run out

damo i think i might have to do that soon then, was considering taking it to a bodyshop and get a quote from them, going to be getting under the sills resprayed before rust takes hold soon anyway so i will ask them what they reckon is the best way and how much it will cost for it. was going to leave them black and only have them fitted for a few months until im driving because it wont be spending its life in car parks then but i do like the idea of colour coding them and just leaving them.

kelv i have tried explaining to her to just park away from other cars or get a bigger space but she just ignores it anyway, plus with us now fostering a little baby its not really fair if i tell her to park at the other end of the car park and she seems ashamed to use a parent and child space for some stupid reason. i think she must like the idea of testing her parking skills and getting in the smallest possible space, either that or people have something against my car and are just denting it for fun

Pass mate, dont think its gonna be too much, depends on size. If large then a dent puller tool may do it, if small then the roof lining pulled back and a swift heat & tapping combo should do it? Mite wanna give it a go urself?

kelv, sounds like youve pissed off a gang of ninjas in a past life!! Although i cant see how/why people can be ignorant enough to open their doors so hard!!!

I dont know how people can do this either. I hold the door where it would meet so that if it does hit my fingers are there to stop it, must be people that cant squeeze out of their door.
