Advice on Engine Swap

Hi everyone,
Was just wondering what work is involved in putting a 1.5 Pulsar or 1.6 Pulsar or VZR engine into a 1.4 Almera body.?
All info appreciated.!

what year is the car and what engine do you want in it ? if its a N15 then its fairly straight forward not sure on the N16 no one has really attempted it

^rickirl wants to swap the GA14 out of an N15 for an SR16VE Darren.

Sorry its an n15, not sure what year think its a 97 with 1.4 almera engine, considering buying it and doing engine swap in the summer like.! Ideally I would like to put in a VZR but a 1.5 or 1.6 pulsar engine would be fine out too.! What I need to know really is if anyone on here has done this before.? If so it would be very handy if I could get some advice off that person too.!

Nice looking 16 you have too Darren by the way

some one has put in a SR20VE in a Almera GTi but that comes with a SR20DE anyway so a fairly simple swap but wiring is a head ache. shaggy has done a swap on his car from a GA to SR.

All these engine codes are confusing me :( ha

So what engine would ye recommend.? In simple terms.!! And could anyone list the parts I will need for the swap.? There is a Pulsar gearbox in her already I think if that makes any difference

not much point doing a swap too a GA15DE or GA16DE from a 1.4 ur not going to gain much power so would not be worth it. go with the SR16VE(VZR) or a SR20DE(GTi)

Pulsar isnt an exact model, its just the name for the car, N15 Pulsars are just the japanese version of the N15 Almeras (Like the one in my picture).
If you have a 1.4 it's the GA14DE engine.
Imported pulsars can come with the GA15DE engine but it wasnt a UK option.
SRis etc have the GA16DE engine with 98hp. You'll need the complete engine. The wiring harness will just plug and play and the gearbox bolts up. I cant gaurantee it will run perfect without the 1.6 ECU, NATS ECU and keys (The keys have the immobiliser chip in that talks to the NATS ECU - Nissan Anti Theft System).

VZRs, GTis, Autechs etc all use the SR series engine which is a lot more different.

depends on what your after mate, if you want something quick then theres no point going for the GA16 in the standard pulsars as without spending alot of money you wont get decent power, but its a cheap swap. VZR will obviously give you alot more power, but its more complicated, if you can find a smashed VZR though it wouldnt be too bad a job with both cars there and swap everything over complete, saves alot of hassle and you know you have got everything you could need then.

I disagree, the 1.4 and 1.6 deliver power very differently IMO, and it is a straightforward swap unlike the VZ-R or GTi engine (When you might as well just buy a VZ-R or GTi).

Havent money for a VZR.! Couldnt get insured in one either.! What engine do ye reckon so.? Would love a VZR or GTi but they seem to be a lot of hassle are they.?
I want a bit of power alright plus it would make the car easier to sell on after as the 1.4 thats in her at the moment has high enough mileage.
So which engine would ye recommend for most power gain without a huge amount of hassle.?
Or have ye info on each type of swap.? Could show it to my buddy who will prob do the swap for me see what he thinks would be easiest for him, or what he would be able to do.!

If you can't afford a vz-r or to insure one, you probably can't afford a vz-r engine and all the necessary bits to fit it and insure it either mate. Plus it wouldn't be easy, at all. you'd really want vz-r/gti suspension and brakes etc to cope with the extra power as well.

is a big difference - ga16de - 100bhp, sr20de - 145bhp, sr16ve - 170bhp.

the normal 1.6 would be simple, but unless your mate has knowledge of these engines the vz-r/GTi swap would probably be a pain in the arse. You'd need everything froma scrapped vz-r, but like i said - mega bucks anyway.

Bump.! Opinions please.! At the moment its looking like a 1.6 engine will be going in if I get the car, should I leave in the Pulsar gearbox or change it for a 1.4 to give a better top speed cos of the gear ratios.? Thats what someone else recommended anyway
