Air filter upgrade

I want to improve the bhp and fuel efficiency on my standard 51 plate 1.8 sport +, what would people recomend a k&n air filter straight replacement or a pipercross straight filter replacement?

either is rated fella, there both good buys. ive got a PiperX on my car and 2years on its still doing what it should.

I can't prove that their panel filter gives you more MPG, but what I can say is that the power delivery seems smoother & revs cleanly all the way through the rev range. Mine's made 119bhp @ the fly or 98 bhp @ the wheels. With standard figs at 116bhp, that should be 3 horses more with just a filter & backbox at that time. With a cat-back system on now & a service just done, I'm confident mine's would make over 100 bhp @ the wheels. It certainly pulls well enough for a low'ish output
