Air flow meter problems with N16 1.5

Dear all,

we have a Nissan Almera II 1.5 L petrol from 2000. In last September the air flow meter had to be replaced. Ever since then it gets broken every 2-3 months which causes the car to stop while running, or even not to start at all. At the Nissan service centre they couldn’t find anything that could be blamed for causing this recurring problem. When the air flow meter is operating in order, there are no signs of any malfunctions whatsoever and the car works perfectly.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Regards,
bertone

What air filter is installed on the car?

Standard (including paper filter), or some sort of K&N (or similar oiled filter) panel/air box replacement filter?

Oil based filters such as K&N can coat the MAF in a film of oil as its drawn in which can cause it to miss read/become damaged. The film type sensor is more prone to this fault, however the wire version is also susceptible to contamination.

No quite sure then...

Where are these replacement MAF's coming from? New or second hand? What make/model of unit?
