airbags!

right, I now have a set of buckets+harnesses to go into the N16. My problem however is that I have seat airbags! is there any way of getting the car set to no longer recognise them? someone said something about resistors plumbed into the open circuit?

Can anyone shed any light on how I can put the new seats in and not have my airbag light constantly on?

take out the air bag light in the dash.

oh yeah your air bags will not work if 1 is disconnected so its all or nothing.

Would it be possible to find replacement seats which have airbags in them? The sort of bucket seats as in the late Imprezas or something?

I wouldn't want to remove the airbags completely.

P.S. I don't know if the Impreza's airbags are in the seat themselves, I know they have side airbags. (And I like the look of them!)

Surely the resistor method basically tricks the car into thibking the airbags are still present, so the dash bags will still work? A mechanic friend said that the only way the system knows if they are still present is through the resistance in the circuit, not sure if it's true or not?

Yes that is true. You need to put a resistor of the correct valve in instead of the air bag. very easy to do.

Not sure yet! waiting for my harnesses to arrive. I'm sure I an find one on ebay under the title of superchip though :)

Does anyone know how long I will have to leave the battery disconnected before it's safe to remove the airbags/seats pretensioners?

3 mins

I'll try! I've done a lot to it since you last saw it, it's now actually lowered (shock horror), wheels are apinted purple to grey flip and refurbed, got clear rear lights, (which I'm going to take off when I get round to it, I don't really like them) and one of the sport+ spoilers, hopefully dropping in the 1800 I've just bought at some point soon as well :)
