Almera Gear Knob

HELP..... have just bought a used gear knob to replace the one on my Almera 1.5 se 2003 which has the central metal display missing. There appears to be a screw thread but the one currently on the gear stick wont budge. Has anyone out there needed to replace the gear knob and experienced similar probs?????
 
hehe pretty much everyone! Some are easy as heck to get off and others just wont budge! I have an N15 and to get mine off, i ended up hacksawing it in half, then chisel-ing off the plastic bit in the middle... Wouldn't advise the chiselling bit though, plus I think the centre is brass on an N16?

Your best bet is to warm it up for a bit with a hair dryer, and use a strap wrench to loosen it, along with a lot of brute force, and job should be a good un
 
As suggested above...I have the opposite problem - on a hot day when I go to change gear, the gear knob slips round in my hand :P
 
when doing this its best to play Prodigy-Firestarter really load to pump you up and also drown out the filth coming out of your mouth....

one nine stone weakling and a special elastic band wiv magical powers did the trick..
 
mine was a bastard too! in the end gave up trying to save the original leather knob and took a hacksaw to it! Grrrr. lol.
