hi all, new on here. i am looking to replace my current jap-mobile (323F 1.5GXi) and progress on to something with a bit more grunt, for not too much £££
.

i have been seriously looking at primera GT's (P11 am a member on npoc.co.uk etc) but i am struggling to find a good one at the right price/milage etc.

i have seena good few almera's though which interest me, witht heir 140~ bhp:)

from reading some threads today i know that the model i am looking at is an n15? i.e a 1998 GTi with RS pack, with around 60-70k on the clock for £2000-2500.

which engine does the A GTi have? does it share an engine with the primera GT? are tuning parts fairly readily available?

and finally where do people from here sell their motors:)

cheers all, NAOC newb

Hello and welcome to the site!

Your best bet to find a good car is firstly see if anyone is selling their on the 'For Sale' section on here, apart from that try eBay or Autotrader for a good example.
I cant help you too much on the other bits in your message but someone else will reply shortly I expect who will know.

Primera GT's and Mera GTi's have the same engine. (I think the older primeras had a slightly different engine that was high port)

Tuning parts can be a bit hard to come by, but things like air filters, lowering springs and stuff are pretty easy. Stuff like headers we have to get from the US.

I dont know what you mean by an RS pack, all mera GTi's are the same after 1998, although you may come across one or two without a sunroof or one that has a lid on the rear of the console.

Welcome, anyway!

ahh cool, cheers for that guys.

ahh same engine as the primera GT, i have heard conflicting reports saying it is infact the same engine found in the Pulsar GTI-R (but with turbos on). and if it is the same engine as the PGT, then how come it develops 8-9 less bhp? can this easily be converted to 150bhp?

well the advert on auotrader specifically mentions the body pack etc.. hmm could be nothing:)

when do phase 2 miras come into the equation? i cant find a model hstory on this website, the primera OC has much info on different modes and stuff...

thanks Nickg

97/98 If i remember rightly

Only differences with Phase 2's is Different headlights , rear lights, bodykit, Digital (instead of analogue) Dials & a few other minor things.

Sure theres not anything major between the 2

I believe the very first Gtis didn't have a bodykit as standard, it was an optional extra, but i think its actually unusual to see one without it. Whatever you get, the bodykit is a must on the GTi :) (Just don't ever damage it!)

there are very similar. I cant remember the main differences. Some differences are that the GTiR has lower compression, piston coolers, cam coolers, (1mm bigger bore, i think)
they also have totally different intakes.
The exhaust manifold fits the Almera engine, so you can easily bolt a turbo on. Its the other bits you have to do aswell though, including, drilling the block for the oil return.
There is a guide on turboing the SR20DE on here, in the "links" section i believe
P.S - buy an Almera ;)
added the link
Turbo Conversion

cool, thanks again guys.

is there anything i should look out for on a 75k milage 'mera? am i right in thinking this engine is chain driven? if so when does the chain need to be changed.

and also, is the clutch likely to be ripe for renewal? im hopingto put 8-10k miles on it a year so it has to be reliable!

The chain should not need to be touched through the life of the engine so nothing to worry out there. The clutch will depend on if it has been changed somewhen over the last 70k miles plus how it has been driven. Try and bargain the price down a bit if you think it may need a new one in the future so you can go out and get one. They are probably about £100-£200 for a good one (dont quote me on that as I dont really know!!).

heh i will have to be doing a lot of bartering, as i want them to take my current car as p/x, if i barter too much they will end up paying me to take the mera away!

thanks:)s
