Almera rocker cover woes

Hi
I'm trying to check the chain tension on my son's 2004 1.5 petrol Almera as he is having 'revving' issues. I have removed the nine cover bolts and the two 12mm bolts (under the loom at the back) but cannot get the cover to budge. I've tried tapping it with a lump hammer, using a lever, chisel, pleading with it and even shouting but it will not move even a millimetre. Am I correct in assuming that once the 11 bolts are removed it should start to lift - I see there are two locating pegs on the n/s of the head so the cover presumably can only move upwards. Although I've removed them I cannot see why the two 12m/m bolts at the back need to come out also - surely they hold the inlet manifold to the head not the rocker cover? All the ancillary wiring is either removed or has sufficient play not to be an issue

Have I missed something?

Probably not. It will just be on really well as Nissan OEM sealant is really strong stuff. Maybe a really fine chisel and work that in somewhere. Does the rocker have to come off anyway? It's the cover on the side that needs to be removed to see the tensioner.

Many thanks Simcard - tried your side cover suggestion and found the tensioner only protrudes by 4mm so no stretched chain. Very much appreciate your help (I am more used to MGB's than Nissans!)
Regards

One not now so stressed dad.
