Almera won't rev above 4000 rpm

I am sorry if I posted this in the wrong section but I really need some advice.

I have a W reg Almera S and the rev's when idle won't go above 4000 rpm, when I drive the car it sometimes is really spluttery and groggy. I have taking it to Nissan and a local garage to be told that nothing is showing up on the diagnostic machine!! The engine management light is not on, so I really don't know what to do. Somedays are worse than others it will splutter in every gear and the car kind of bunny hops and looses power, it done it on the motorway yesterday doing 70 so getting scared to use the car on long journeys. Any help would be greatly appreciated:lol:

In the highly unlikely event that it isn`t any of the items Mark has listed, I`d also check the wiring that goes around the engine by the EGR valve, this could`ve worn through & be shorting out on the pipework next to the battery.

This happened on someone`s N16 a few years ago & it caused all sorts of odd symptoms.

I have been having the same problems. The EGR valve was done , the throttel body cleaned and check ,VVT hub and timing chain checked, cat checked, plugs and coil done. nothing showing as wrong from ecu been checked twice no codes. fuel pump checked all fine have no clue what it could be any help would be great.

Sounds kinda like the problem my old man had with his old Nissan Sunny, he had the Air Flow unit changed and his Cat also had a blockage. Not sure if this is what's causing your issue's but it sounds very similar. Hope this info helps :p

There's 10 years difference in technology between them. Like i said, if there's no codes, most likely to be chain stretch.
