Anti-Speeders

Volunteers/Pensioners (with a lot of time on their hands)

No offence intended for the aged sympathisers as I'm respectful of the road law-abiding. I'm not sure if this is the correct area to post (moderators feel free to move it if you like) but has anybody noticed the volunteers who sit on the A247 bridge that goes over the A3 with clipboards and hand-held speed cameras? I'm thinking what's the point unless they're conducting a survey? If they really want to help the road laws why don't they look for speeders in the towns and village centres where it's possible to actually hit someone, check on number plates to find illegal cars or silly taxi drivers who have no common courtesy for the higway code?

Im not sure where the A247 is but when i used to live in Surrey i was aware of a scheme where locals would do this speed checking. If you were caught - the information would be passed onto the police, and a letter would be sent to you notifying you of your speed - and advising you that your details would be kept on record. Caught a second time and a visit from a police officer follows, although nothing they can do at this stage. However by this time - try and pass a copper without being pulled over for being a known speeder!

I can understand people living in small villages doing this where there`s a speed problem. I get p*ssed ff with corsa`s and nova`s speeding past my house...........if i could catch the twats on camera i would do it.
