anyone put me straight about this ?

some say my almera 1400ambition 5dr - sept 1999, only has 67 bhp , others say its 85bhp , anyone help me shed some light on this ? it has air con and power steering too , but is well slow around town . and also why are the rear wheel bearings so expensive ? thanks in advance for replies

they have 88bhp mate.

I always thought my 1.4 was fairly nippy, try a full service to see if that makes any difference. If not, then its a 1.4 at the end of the day, they're not built to be fast.

just done , oil/filter, fuel filter, air filter , ngk plugs , gapped as per manual , and 3 drive belts . it just seems way slow compared to the old sunnt 1400 , i had , and wont go anywhere as fast as my dads 1400 polo 8v [ same year as almera ] ???????? i dunno maybe its just me

heres a test i did on mine 3 or 4 months ago to gauge how fast/slow it is. on a private test track ;) i had a bit of a do with my mate in his 306 DTurbo that has got the boost turned up to about 16/17 psi (bearing in mind they run 14 standard) they are 90 BHP standard, 1400 almera is quoted at 85bhp. i have K&N panel filter and a 5Zigen backbox. he only barely started pulling away at 90 leptons.......

yup. 85bhp in standard trim. bearing in mind that it's an underpowered 1.4 engine in an overweight car... it's not a fast car by any means... at all...

yeap i soon got bored of how slow my 1.4 almera was, 1.4 sunny is a tad nippier, sunny 1.4 pulls away from a 1.4 almera but 1.6 mera pulls away from the 1.4 sunny.

and as said above underpowered and overweight.

i believe the 67bhp youve been told was in reference to the GA14DS (carb engine) whereas the mera 1.4 is the GA14DE multi point injection
