I have a 2000 1.5 Almera SE, which is sadly going to be scrapped because a new timing chain is more than the car is worth. MOT is also due and I know at least £150 needs spending.
Car starts and ticks over fine, but when driven at low revs, it "kangaroos" like a learner driver. Rev counter jumps about. Settles down at higher revs. Engine management reading point to the timing chain fault. Problem slowly been getting worse over 6 months.
I have found a 2006 (55) Almera 1.5SX at a decent price and wonder whether Nissan had fixed the problem by then?
It drives OK and the rev counter is steady, but it is high mileage at 115,000. Almost no service history, but it does appear to have been looked after. Almeras tick all the boxes for me in terms of being relatively spacious inside, yet quite small overall. 5 doors, decent boot, etc.
Other forums suggest the problem is still affecting newer models of Nissan.
Should I steer clear?
