Baby car seat for 54 plate Almera (N16)

Hello,
I have a Nissan Almera 1.5 SE 5 door hatchback which I purchased new in September 2004 (54 plate, N16 model , no Isofix). I need to find a suitable baby car seat for it for a newborn baby, preferably one which will last until the child is 3 or 4 years.
I am struggling to find one which fits the Almera because of the angle of the back seat (it leaves quite a gap between the base of the car seat and the seat itself) and the fact that the buckles in the back seats of the car are on a tether (bit of seatbelt).
Can anyone please tell me which specific infant car seats will definitely fit my Almera? I have searched the net but no-one says the same thing and I don’t want to purchase one and then find it is unsafe. If anyone has actually had one for this particular model, that would be really helpful.
Thanks a lot!

No seat will last from new born to 4yrs.
I used a Graco seat in my N16 Almera for my 2 & 5 yr old with no hassle.

I see, I had this problem with the n15, but whilst it sat off a bit at the bottom, it was still secure, bit of a ball ache trying to fix it so it was backwards facing but other than that it was fine x

I don't know how different the seats are in the N16 but I've used 3 different (forward and rear facing) Britax seats in my N15 with no issues. They are held more against the backrest rather than the seat base anyway. The main issue is if the plastic of the seatbelt part with the button touches the frame of the seat as it may stress and crack the plastic. Can you not take the car to mothercare or halfords for expert advice? If you are near Peterborough, the kiddicare offices are here and they checked all my Britax and the Recaro seats in my wife's Mini.

Thanks for that. The N16 has the same issue with the seatbelt. Can you please tell me which Britax models you used? (Have got nowhere with Mothercare and Halfords, and don't live near Peterborough...)

I'm not sure of the exact model because it was a few years ago now! It was part of the Vigour 3+ set, but I had to buy a base separately for it to clip too. Mothercare should fit a few different types to your car and let you choose!

Britax and Bebe Confort are pretty good but as mentioned earlier, you will have to change to a forward facing seat once your child reaches about 1 or 2?

Has anyone successfully used any of the following car seats in an N16 Almera for a newborn: Concord Ultimax; Maxi Cosi Opal; Maxi Cosi Cabriofix; Britax First Class; Britax BabySafe or BabySafe plus SHR II; Maxi Cosi Pebble? These are my shortlist based on a trawl of the internet, but there's nothing to beat real-life experience...!
