Am needing a new set of tyres, so have been doing a bit of research on here - there's lots of recommendations, but think it would be useful and save dozens of reposts if we could get some concensus of opinion as to the best year-round tyres for OE GTi alloys.

Have picked what appear to be the Top Four, and left out the more expensive Goodyears and stuff so that we're comparing tyres in the £30-50 ea on the internet category.

So it seems that most people on here think Toyo's don't perform so well in the wet but are amazing in the dry. Yoko's perform great but are said to wear quickly. So bearing all that in mind - when you next need a good all-round tyre for everyday driving, which one will you choose?

Incidentally, Camskill have an offer on Toyo's at mo - £133 for four delivered... So come on lads, that money's burning a hole in me wallet....

You've said some of this already but...I'd go for Falken 912s or Avons. TR-1s not so good in the wet and pradas and toyos wear out quicker. I have Falen 912s on mine and they have lasted over a year (and still got plently of tread), and have found them brilliant in the wet and great in the dry. Quiet too.

I bought my 205/55/16 Falken 912s for £43 each from camskill.

hankook k102s would be a good choice if you can find them. Had Goodyear Eagles on my Celica and hated them. Avons are terrible, not nice at all. My money's going on Falkens - anyone here running them?

Bridgestone Potenza RE720 195 55 R15 FTW
these are awsome grip grippy grip grip
good wear too , and dont seem too bad in the wet.

agreed, but when mine got low I couldnt find another set, think they've been discontinued. I got Yoko C-Drives as you cant get Parada's in a 55 profile. Impressed with the c-drives so far.

Oh yeah, I know I described this as original fit, but I am looking at 50 rather than 55 to save a few quid, so the four choices might not be strictly correct.
Although presumably once these are fitted, it will look like it's on stilts even more and I'll 'be forced' to spend £600 on coilies, so could be a false economy ;)

Yep, I've got them on my 16's & 17's. Good grip & wear rate, but a bit noisy. Whatever you do, don't buy Dunlop SP 3000s - ok in the dry, but absolutely useless in the wet. They aquaplane really badly !

Bridgestone Potenzas are good.. But I ended up with bloody 185's last time I ordered some from my local place!
Mates have got the Yokos on various cars, seem very good indeed, and haven't worn that quickly.. They look trick too. Downside is you can only get 195 width :(

As mentioned above, me.

Tyre thread, waaaaaay!

lol yes another one! but to be fair this is about everyday long lasting tyres not the usual performance tyre thread. Which is why I'm surprised the TR-1s have the most votes as they wear quicker than most, and are not good in the wet I and many others have found.

Well yeah, like I said, there's been tons of posts from noobies and members alike on tyres, which have been helpful but sometimes lead to conflicting advice or don't provide any real idea as to what the definitive tyre choice is. So maybe a poll can provide the answer...

There is no answer, its all personal opinions. It's like i read NQAGTR's post and i think fair enough, but does he know what grip means at 120 round a tight corner, i doubt it, unless he's just put some fuel additive in.

I would just buy the cheapest tyres within the range of what you've posted. Even if they are a soft compound, they're not exspensive to replace 2 at a time.

Avon ZV5's are immense, dry grip is great and wet performance is awesome.

They are showing no signs of wearing after 3k hard miles.

Yeah Proxes are a top choice for dry work but if you are after an all rounder i'd look elsewhere musho.

Uniroyal Rainsports! They are immense either wet or dry. RS1 is better than 2's. Falken FK452 or 451 are good too and long lasting. Had them on my zed and they lasted 5k miles so far which no other tyre ever has.

What are the 452's like for noise and grip? I'm interested in getting some for my fronts you see. Got 912s all round at the mo and am impressed so would imagine the 452 being the more performance orientated tyre would be great.
