bike rack

i know theres a thread on them but its an old one, is there a good usable bike rack that i could use with my gti? what do you mountain bikers use? thanks in advance :cool:
 
I just put the seats down and put it in the back, dont trust bike racks at all since my mates bike came off his fiesta at 90mph
 
ive got 2 bikes to transport though, bought a new one for my kid for crimbo..couldnt resist a new one for myself while i was there.
 
fit 2 bikes in the back of an almera no bother, take the wheels off :)

thats what i do anyway.

other than that pop into halfrauds and see what they've got, should be a few in there that'll fit the bill
 
The only option uve got is a crap strap-on job. Ive gotta Thule Clip-on, which is an ace bikerack but doesnt fit :( so am going to make some new brakets at some point.
Sux really because the rear strut brace doesnt help matters...
 
ahh yes, i forgot about the silly strut brace in you peoples gti's ;)

ermmm, i'll see if my halfords job fits on the car tomorrow, then i shall report back and can recomend you that one if it fits :P
 
Right, heres some pictures of my car with the homebase universal jobby i have, its been all over europe you know.

sits a bit high but thats cos it was set up for a toyota previa i think, couldnt be arsed changing it about

i wud of suggested the tow bar mounted like i use but youve alerady dismissed putting a tow bar on.....

just have the clips on the boot mounted one ripping chunks outa your paint work

you could always get a tow bar fitted, jus the mount on the chassis if you got 1 with the bolt on ball, remove the ball, leave it off and just have the flat plate there waiting for the bike rack to be bolted to it when needed.

bit of a faf like but ive seen the mess 70mph and a snapped strap can do to a (expensive) bike.
