boot lock cable snapped

my boot lock cable snapped today, nightmare half way round my postie round ! managed to work out that u had to pop out the snap in's on the bottom of the plastic cover and the one screw in the recessed handle but because it was closed shut i had to rag the cover off which is no big deal i can deal with a few broken poppers but this cable is annoying me its only the end attached to the handle that's broken i have manged to bodge this for now with some wire where can i buy the proper cable ?? or a at least a part number if someone could help that would be brilliant
 
Just to confirm, your car is a 2000-2006 4 door saloon?

Because the N16 hatch does not have a cable release.
 
It does Ed. He means the cable that connects the handle to the catch inside the tailgate.

Scrapyard for a replacement as a new part will be expensive.
 
Ah yes my mistake. I was thinking of a cabin release like in the N15.
 
thanks for ur replies was hoping to get a new one as i think a 8 - 10 year old scrap yard one will just do the same again and yes i have a n16 2000 hatch (w reg)
 
Right ok, must be different to my phase 2 then as mine is like that with no key.

I'll bring up the phase 1 diag.
