brake system...

I have a few things to do while my engine is out.

I have a non abs gti master cylinder i bought off ross, as i have removed all my abs lines/ecu/wiring. And was thinking of fitting it so i can remove my abs pump.

1. Will it benefit my brakes (z32 alloy 4 pots) by swapping it? they perform really well atm.

2. how easy is it to re-make the copper brake lines as ill be making new ones, ive seen some of these? how much pipe will i need roughly? and what tools will i need?

3. Is there anything else i need to get to replace/fit in the system once ive removed the abs pump, ie, do i run the lines straight from the master cylinder direct to the caliper?

thanks for your help :)

yeah true, but would like to get rid of the abs pump as it is pretty surplus.

but will the brake system still be as strong without it with the non abs MC.

I did this on mine Stu, the brakes felt much better afterwards but then she is only a track slag so I havent had to use the brakes in the wet in an emergency!

There is a biasing / proportioning valve on the bulkhead behind the engine that connect the rear lines to the master cylinder. The original one is only a two port but the non ABS one is prob a 4 port one. I ran new lines from the new master cylinder to the front calipers then removed the bias valve and ran new lines from the master cylinder and connected to the rear lines that were connected to the bias valve.

The new master cylinder will have built in proportioning so you will not need another bias valve unless you want to fit one, although my change was done with OE calipers not the Z32 ones you have, but if you brakes are balanced well now they should still be after the swap.

The Ebay kit you linked to is very similar to what I used, you will also need a flaring tool / kit and a pipe bender. I used a silverline flare kit from the Toolstation, not a brilliant piece of kit but cheap and it did the job. I did practice making a few flares first as I had never done it before. The pipe bender was an Ebay jobbie.

Make sure you test the lines for leaks before refitting the engine cos you will struggle to get access to the joints on the bulkhead otherwise.
Keep your bends as tight as possible to the master cylinder as there is bugger all clearance when you get the lump back in.

If you're going to the trouble of fitting a new master cylinder why not fit a bigger one to let the 4 pots work at their full potential 15/16" iirc is what you want .

Ahh my new "bigger" master cylinder isn't any different then to fitted one. My research fails as I could have sworn it was 15/16 for skyline/300zx 4 pots

iirc, the one ross sold me was from his autech one? not 100% sure, ive tried searching for his FS thread to get the details. cant find it.

thanks Trug, some great info! ? :)

where did you get your pipe kit from? does it come with all the line end fitting etc to do all the joins/connections?

When I was going to do this I bought a 50/50 bias valve off a US civic. Probably deadly on the road but would be great for track.

Lol. I know it the same pipe.

But its just the fittings? I dont know what size they are etc.

You saying that primera/micra/sunny all have the same connectors :)
