Brakes squeeking

My brakes have been squeeking for a few weeks now (had the car for 10k miles and don't know when they were done before that) so took it to Nationial tyres today for a brake check and they said the brakes have got lots of grip left on them. When im going around 80 and i put the brakes on the car feels like its not stopping like it should. They said the back brakes need pushed in a bit and the front pads cleaned and tighten the handbrake which they are charging £35 tomorrow for. Anyone no what the squeeking is and how to stop it or what they are doing tomorrow will stop it.

could be as simple as needing copper grease on the back of the pads, or one of the calipers could be sticking..

Just got a phone call from the garage saying that when they took the brakes off at the front they are only 4mm left and that will be why they are squeeking a bit and not as good as they used to be. Costing me £84 for hte 4 front brake pads fitted and back cleaned and handbrake tightened. Is that a reseanable price?

do it your self if your worried about the labour price... to be honest its not toobad....

£30 odd for the pads and about 50 labour is about right... not a big job only an hours worth...

is yours a GTi?

as pads also have a wear detector on them which cause it to sound like it is scrapping to let you know the pads are low!

£20 for a new set of mintex with detectors on!

Na its just a 1.5 s N16. Don't have any of the tools to do it myself. I would'nt have the patience for it as i would prob kick fuck out the car lol.
