braking question

put new pads in yesterday, just normal standard replacements, drivers side pads were a few mm lower than the passenger and when i bedded the new ones in (2 stops from 40, short drive to cool them down then the same again, were fine after that), the drivers side started smoking whilst the passenger side was fine, piston was also stiffer in the drivers side caliper which explains it but the car pulls up straight, if you jump on the brakes they both lock up at the same time and function just like normal brakes but obviously there is a problem there, is it worth the bother of trying to free it up or should i just leave it while its working? obviously i dont want dodgy brakes but they dont bind at all and function exactly as they should do.

BTW, how does everyone else bed in brake pads? remember reading that i think it was Hi-Spec say to go out and brake hard a few times and there done but dont most say to bed them in for a while without hard braking? i decided to take the first option, once the brake fade went they were fine and today they are working just like they used to so its obviously worked fine. felt terrible when they first went in, was like there was no friction there, 20 minutes later they felt great again and work just like the old ones did.

personally i just brake a bit lighter/earlier and more gradual than i would normally drive to bed pads in. the way ive done them on the sunny, pads and discs at the same time and the discs still look brand new with a very minimal lip on the outside edg, completely flat and no grooves on both sides and the pads are neally at the end of their life.

as for the brake caliper i think i get what your saying, the driver side always used to wear slightly more than the passenger side on my almera, never stopped the brakes working correctly so the way i saw it, if it aint broke dont fix it.

Check the 2 shafts that the outer piece of the caliper slides on (top and bottom), sometimes they go dry mate and can cause uneven wear etc if they go dry. Happened to mine a few months ago. Basically strip it down and grease them up well again and they're good as new.

As for braking, when I put my EBC Green Stuff pads in I read that you're supposed to brake gently for roughly 200 miles to bed them in. I've done harder braking before that time though to be fair and they've been fine but it's just the same as any part under extreme stress, it needs bedding in properly.

I've never heard on any brake pads that you should slam the brakes on a couple of times to bed them in
