Bumpstrips Going back on Help!!

Reet after the sticky pad stuff i bought from the local motor factor failed to stick the strips to the car, i need something a little stronger to do the job.

Obviously i dont want to damage the cars paint so can anyone recommend a substance that will do the job similar to whatever Nissan were using. These probably wont be coming off again until the car gets another respray so all solutions are welcome but the cleanest methods preferred.

Lastly, the remnants of the old sticky pad stuff is fixed firmly to the car now so i was thinking of using some good glue/silicone or whatever anybody suggests and applying it to the top of the bad then putting the bumpstrip on that way. I did try superglue but after a week the bumpstrip started to peel off again.

Here's a pic of how the cars looking with the sticky pads

Any solutions as to how to remove these would be a bonus as they're quite thick and well stuck on to the car. If not I'll just put the strips back on over these somehow.

hair dryer to heat it up and roll it off with your thumb, then what you want is to pop to a paintshop/body shop supplier and get some body sealant/sticky stuff, I think the stuff I used to fit my lasses bodykit was PD something or other but if you tell them whats its for they'll give you the right stuff.

I removed my bumpstrips few weeks ago, hair dryer and a thumb and patience.
wd40 is great for removing the left over residue once you have rolled off the foam bits.

3m do some foam sticky stuff which is ridiculously well sticky, but try putting it across the whole bumpstrip not just round the edges, heat it up some before you stick it on aswell, make it really tacky.

a section of mine was peeling off when I got the car, used the above method and product and it was harder to remove than the original nissan stuff.

I can vouch for WD40, we used it to remove all theleft over stuff from my friends work van, no damage to paint at all, but you should wash it off afterwards to be safe.

Looks so much better without bumpstrips though.

Bringing this back up again. We use some black sealant at work to seal up leaky lights and things like that. What do we think it'd be like for the strips, strong enough to hold it? (its held a key rack to concrete without any problems at work) Could it damage the paint in the long term?

professional decal remover, slap it on a cloth and keep rubbing in to the rubber paddy stuff and then remove with a lolly stick. simple as that

some 3/4 inch self tappers would get em back on nicely

best thing to use to stick them on matey is sikaflex

it is the black "glue" that they use to stick Kits on or re fit windows to cars.

use from a gun with a nice line through the centre to adhere it. removed perfectly with WD40 if you get any squirt out so to speak.

to remove the old stuff, there has never been 1 way of removing it, it normally a combination as it depends on the residue.
but generally i find a dry thumb removes most the thick of it, then a Bug and Tar remover on a "Tack Rag" it is a rag that sprayers use to clean a car prior to spraing as it is a mesh type cloth that has a sticky feel (not sure on what it is mixed in with) but the texture of the cloth mixed witht eh stickyness used in conjunction with the Bug and Tar remover removes them perfectly, it does also do tthicker bits, but like i say ure better with a dry thumb to remove most bits

wayne

i was going suggest stikaflex too wayne, i used it to stick the arch trims on my old sunny. might need some tape to hold them in place.

i forgot to ask mark...how are the strips? did they arrive in good condition? i hunted high and low at work to find some bubble wrap that long

Yeah they were spot on, soo clean and you managed to even get them off without the ends comong off the long parts. They nearly went back to you though because ive been so busy i only got the from the post office on the last day they were being kept.

I've hear tigerseal is very good for sticky stuff on to cars, my mate attached a spoiler on his Golf Gti with this and he never had any problems
