Buying an Almera GTI Advice needed

Right as title says I am looking to buy an Almera GTI and I have found one a 99 T plate with 74000 miles on the clock, was wanting to ask for some pointers about what I should look for, any common faults etc that I could pick up on a test drive/ inspection

Also what kind of money should I be looking to pay for it (its a phase 2 with body kit in Black with 74k miles, with some engine mods (S/S Exhaust, performance chip & K&N Filter)

Thanks

starter motors die
brake disc's tend to warp, you will feel a shudder under braking
rocker cover gaskets go, not expensive to fix

first thing, take it for a real drive go on a 70 road and do 75 break quite harsh not slaming it just break as if u ha to slow down quickly, if the discs are warped ull feel a reallllly bad vibration through the whole car and steering wheel, mine had this and if its discs and pads ur looking at well over 200£ ask how long ago pads and discs were changed as its expensive on these cars so better to know ur gonna have to fork out 200£ within a certain ammount of time, start the engine up listen to any WIERED noises, gti engine should run quite well, dont worry if as soon as u start up from cold it makes a noise for 10seconds its because its got no cambelt its a chain belt, other than that just push down on all the corners of the car to check no weired bouncing, as said before gtis are reallllly good cars if theyv been looked after but like anycar if neglected it will be poor, and parts for the almera gti aint cheap you should be paying no more than 2K if it was spotless perfffffect car just had service and mot id pay 2k tops

well over £200 for pads and discs??? I got front and rears for £110 i think, obviously not genuine nissan, mintex though

i thought this problem was just with me, ive had 3 sets of disks in under 2 years

the standard disc's are pish! also another cause is hammering the brake's and then sitting stationary with them on :)

cost me off the top of me head around 160 for front discs n pads parts + labour it isnt cheap anyways,

My discs were fine, only had vibrations when the front caliper siezed with the piston all the way out.

Long as they're not held on at traffic lights and stuff like that like shaun said then they should be fine :)

But yeah, Scooby check out the link Hally provided and use your common sense.

GTi's go for around £2k with that kind of mileage so try to get as close to that (or under it) as possible, don't let him try to up the price because of the mods etc.
