What would be the main problems with buying an old Almera (around P reg)? Looking at getting one for my partner.. Just noticed one for £595.. (would it make a good local run around car?)

I own a P plate Sri with a fair few mods (which usually highlight or make worse other problems, lowering for example) and i can proudly say that other than the common N15 problem of the power steering fluid cooling rail leaking due to stone impact, i havnt had to replace a single thing due to fault in a whole year of ownership.

the one I have my eye on is totally standard.. thanks for the comments.. makes me a little bit more confident in going for it :)

I had a P plate SRi for 4 years: never a days problem in all that time. Then a T Reg GTi for a year and an N plate Autech after that: Same old story: BOMBPROOF. If it looks good nick, and reasonably well cared for, then I'd say you'll be fine.... No worries

Besides: £500-£600... you can hardly get a packet of cocopops for that these days :D

£500-600 is a very good price! I paid £1200 for my S reg 1.4 Equation. Although it did have a full Nissan service history and not a scratch on it, no rattles, no rust, brand new tyres.

What spec is the one you're looking at?

look for rust! on the arches, and the number plate at the back i changed my number plate and had to get a new boot lid!! two massive holes where the screws had been.

why didn't you just glue it on?

the holes was bigger than the number plate they were like the size ov a cd where each screw's had been the paint was all bubbled under the number plate
